Should I apply ard coat then a matt spray, or can I just use a Matt spray by itself. I was thinking of going to hobby lobby for the spray.

Clear, gloss coats are stronger than matte varnish. Use the clear and then the matte for the best protection. Be careful when using matte spray. A lot of people get something called frosting where everything is cloudy but it's easily fixed with another coat of gloss.

Use Testors brand dullcote and gloss coat for your minis. They're the best in the biz as far as I'm concerned. Also if the matte varnish fogs up your mini, don't panic. When it's too hot or humid, you're spraying too close, didn't shake the can enough or just got a bad can, this can happen sometimes. If it does, just gloss varnish it again and that'll eat away the matte varnish, letting you try again. It's happened to me a bunch of times.
