We have something coming up at our LGS. Around 15 players I think. Nothing too serious though, since we have no solid balancing system yet. Right now we settled on 50 wounds (yes, I know that it puts horde armies at a disadvantage, but I did not write those rules ).

Anyway, I want to play Empire and I have two 'lists' put together:
List 1 - Gunline:
Spoiler:

Master Engineer - Hochland Long Rifle
Cannon
Cannon
10 Handgunners - Marksman with Hochland Long Rifle, Piper
11 Handgunners - Marksman with Hochland Long Rifle, Piper
5 Outriders - Repeater Handguns, Trumpeters

Basically, a gun line. At the start with Marksmen and Engineer will chip away at heroes and so forth with their pretty excellent accuracy. Cannons, both around the Engineer to re-roll their two shots each, take out high profile targets like Monsters and the Outriders are a fast-moving annoyance. Very decent firepower. This should decimate most close-range armies that try to get close.

List 2 - Demigryph Star
Spoiler:

6 Demigryph Knights - Preceptor, Trumpeter
Volkmar on War Altar
Luthor Huss
Warrior Priest - Shield/Hammer
Warrior Priest - Shield/Hammer

Far less shooting, more synergy. This is about stacking saves with Mystical Shield to tank shots. The Demis can get a 2+ reroll 1s like that. Prayer can give them re-roll to hit, re-roll to wound ignore mortal wounds on a 6, heal them. Passive bubbles cause them to ignore battleshock tests, ignore an unsaved wound that would kill a model on a 6. So basically a bunch of save stacking, cross healing, buffing and bubbles. While deadly in melee, this build is vulnerable to long ranged firepower taking out the support characters. A bunch of cannons will kill the Priests fairly quickly.

Which one of those do you think would serve me better given the parameters above? Cheers

Both look like fun armies, Outriders are real stars for me in AoS, considering they can Move-Run-Shoot-Charge all in one turn!

But I think the Demigryph Star will be more fun for your opponent. People enjoy getting best up at close quarters more than they enjoy getting shot to pieces. Those two cannons are especially nasty!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Yeah, the gun-line is pretty nasty. When wounds is your limit, having three models doing -1 and 2W when hitting on 2s wounding on 3s and Cannons with 2 shots, re-roll to hit, -2 and D6 damage on top of all the Handgunner, that also shoot when charged will decimate the opponent pretty quickly. I do not think either of the starter set armies has a chance against that army. The Demis are definitely the more interesting army for both me and the opponent.
I also know that one guy will be playing that Beastmen Formation where half the army arrives in your deployment zone T1. Not good for a gun-line.

Having said that, I will not be the only one discovering how awesome Cannons are. I know that one guy is bringing his Steam Tank, which is another step up from the Cannon. I know people who will be bringing full on Daemon factories. You need cannons lest this gets out of control. However, the War Altar has a massive shooting bonus against Daemons, so 1-shotting Fate Weaver should not be a problem.

There would be a third, more balanced alternative with Demi Gryphs, Outriders and one or two mounted Heroes to keep up. But balanced lists should be reserved for bigger games. Smaller games are all abour synergies and abuse it seems
