While AoS gets all the new plastic, paper and content, the 40k area of the GW website is full of Ork-love.

Should I get excited? Will GW love me like I love Orks? Or is it just a place holder until someone else on WH40k gets new plastic?

I am not tempted by the bundle - Shock and Awe - I have just finished painting 20 Lootas and can barely face looking at them. I have all the parts for my inner-Mek to knock up four gunz and my first Goronaught sits in 'half-made' colomn of my Mek's build schedule, and a second SAG would just be silly.

So, is GW a teaser or actually putting out?

Never buying a Mek Gun to be honest. $55 for a single model that I field in droves on the table is crazy. Even in a bundle.

$20 on plasticard rods, tubes, H bars, and 2mm sheets and I've made some pretty convincing cannons.

I love that the best seller list includes the gorkanaut and the Stompa, which is the same thing, twice the size, and 10$ more.

Nah, it just means GW probably has a bit more of that stuff than they would like sitting in their warehouse and they want to move the product.

Yep. When other companies want to sell stuff, they tend to have a sale.

GW just reminds you they exist, like "hey, you could buy this stuff...."

Imperial Guard had the same treatment last week. I guess this is just a way for GW to keep 40k on the radar without releasing any new models or rules. I guess we should expect the same treatment for some other 40K armies over the next few weeks.

Also to move stuff that doesn't sell, which Ogryns probably don't because of how over-costed they are. Pretty much anyone with a clue builds their own mek guns / uses proxies. And I'm willing to bet that even most of the people who don't do so simply don't run them. Even if you're a huge GW boxes only guy, 50$ for 18 points is frakking insane.

A bit off topic here, but do you know of a cheap proxie that would work?

A cheap proxie for the guns?

I am making barrels from the pipe in the manufactorum scenery set (the lamps will be shells) and also from the destructor cannon left over from the Necron Ghost Ark/Destoyer kit. All the wheels etc will come froma Trukk kit.

The simplest solution is going to be going online (amazon, ebay, online toy sellers) and looking for toys / other model kits. Howitzers, Namenwerfers (sp), ect ect. I just shopped around for 3 minutes and found this stuff on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BUDDY-L-PLASTIC-HOWITZER-GUN-/291514145297?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43df98da11
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-BRITAINS-LTD-WW2-ERA-HOWITZER-CANNON-343A-1-/171857850320?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item280386afd0
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOOTSIETOY-HOWITZER-ARMY-2-/131558270372?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1ea17be5a4
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cannon-howitzer-diecast-/301689678891?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item463e1b2c2b

Obviously these don't fix the 40k aesthetic perfectly, so you'll need to bitz them up, but they're pretty cheap and good. If you want to splurge a bit more, there are other outlets:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/290729055822?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Obviously the absolute cheapest solution is to rummage around your bitz box and get to work, but if you don't have enough bulky vehicle bitz / plasticard laying around, or simply don't have the skill / confidence to put that kind of stuff together, there are certainly cheap options out there.

I have to admit beforehand i dont own those models myself so i cannot say anything about the quality but if i were to buy some mek guns i'd probably get those:
http://www.miniaturescenery.com/ProductPage.asp?CODE=VH1GOBGUNZ
(rocket buggy also looks interesting)
As far as i can tell their stuff is maybe a bit more tricky to assemble compared to GW stuff but the pricing seems decent (maybe not if you only order one kit - shipping from australia >.<

Never known why people ever complain about ork mek guns when building your own takes about $5 and a few steel beams and some mentos gum.

The really useful guns are double that, plus you'll get plenty Gretchins too, which are a better artillery crew than the standard Gretchins.

I agree, those boxes are *way* too expensive. Then again, a box or two is a good foundation for a larger unit.

To be fair it's £28 for a Mek Gun and £25.71 for three Goblin Gunz from there, shipping included.

Not sure how GW will feel about it if I bring it in store as it's not a 'citadel model'
