The first unit from the NSF that's tagging along with my marines. Just like them, these miniatures are quickshaded. The "Incinerator" is a Legion Meltagun converted with Flamer bits.

I hope you dig, as usual.

I really like the flatness of the armour and the swords' shading. Nice.

Super job on the weapons mate!

It may be the lighting - or your preference - but I would prefer to see more highlighting on the armour.

There is not this idea.

Is that an ork head he's stabbing? Or something else entirely?

Either way, I dig it.

Thank you. The head is that of an Nurgle Plaguebearer.

Highlighting really isn't a part of the dipping method ( I guess it can be done but it could end up looking really detached because of the dips shading. ) In any case, the time/quality ratio with dipping is quite great, these guys only took me 3 hours to complete from undercoat to finish.

I like it, also I prefer the highlighting to be be less intensive with Grey Knights. In fact with mine I wash them with a mix of black and brown to keep the metal rusty and dark.

So, nice job, looks great!

Some more stuff ready:

NDK

"Feel the weight of His conviction on your soul, heretic."

The sword has a blend from Andre Blue to Sky Blue, but for some reason it didn't wish to show itself well. The NDK has played football with a Chaos Biker, and my classic trademark "a big thing stepping on something small and squishing it" -hasn't been forgotten, as evidenced by the base.

Red Hunters Bikers

With these I got a little help, a mate of mine gave some of the bikes a basecoat, everything else and the rest I painted. Smashbane has been coverted from a lot of different bitz. I also did a green glow on all the special weapons ( Legion Graviton Guns and Gravguns mixed. ) I forgot to photograph the bike displays, but a few of them are playing tic-tac-toe with eachother, some are reading, and one simply has "Alert: Jink" on his screen.

Everyone so far

Once again, hope you dig.

Great work. It looks very clean with the quickshade. Can I ask what shade it is you're using? I would like to try this technique in the future.

And are you painting from a white undercoat?

Can't wait for more!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Hey there, thanks.

For everything else I used Army Painter Strong Tone ( it's a brown quickshade with medium strength. ) For the NDK I used Liberon Bistrot - Light Walnut ( a furniture woodstain, the original "quickshade" as it has a slightly stronger tone for larger surfaces. )

I paint from an undercoat that is the main colour of the miniature, as this speeds up the process even more. ( Red Hunters = Army Painter Dragon Red, Grey Knights = Army Painter Metal. )

The models look pretty flat and bland without any highlighting. I think it would look better if you threw a highlight or two after dipping so the armor didn't look so flat.

Personally I'm not bothered, but I get where you're coming from.

On the table the miniatures look great, and the goal of this specific project for me is to get miniatures that look nice when gaming with maximum speed of progress. I did a few test models, but as I suspected highlighting when using quickshade makes the highlights stand out in a bit of a accented way which I'm not sure I like.

I also like the fact quickshade adds a layer of durability for the minis. For some traditionally painted minis, there's a link on my sic ( imgur. )

That is a slick army sir! I do feel they could use some kind of wash just for some added depth. Otherwise they look extremely well painted.

Hey guys, update time.

I want to deliver my centurion/sternguard units into battle in style, and I hence created this Drop Pod that plays a recorded tune with a touch of a button.

Note: Includes naughty words, do not listen at work/if you're easily offended/whatever.

Sternguard Veterans with their beat blasting transport.

A company I've had great experiences with, Army Painter, has started sponsoring my painting and articles for a website I am working on with some gaming related buddies, after seeing my quickshaded miniatures and armies with which I've mostly used their products to beginwith. I will be creating a quickshade tutorial, using my personal techniques and tips for said website ( and if people have interest in it, I can also link it to DakkaDakka. ) The article will be featured on Army Painters -website and in their news feed. For me it is a great honour to be sponsored by such a great company, so if anyone of you AP people happen to be reading this, thank you.

The first sponsorship package arrived yesterday, an AP Mega Paint Set:

I can't wait to start work on the tutorial and trying out their paint range. I already used the reds and metals for the touchups on the Sternguard, and I must say they seem great, especially since they are an exact match for their sprays in colour. Next to painting tutorials there'll be other gaming related articles centered on Finland, along with some tournament comps and rankings ( we will be hosting sibling tournaments in two different cities in Finland. ) The articles will be written with the pace "when we can" - it's a project of hobby related things with a relaxed atmosphere for our group, not a job. So, exciting times ahead. I'll link the website for those interested in a future entry for the army.

As usual, I hope you dig.

While waiting for the next squad to dry ( and writing the quickshading tutorial for Army Painter ) I decided to work on the TT Combat objective markers and turn counter I received in the mail today. I first saw the set at a tournament, and figured it looked pretty handy. The price was also very cheap so I got one for myself.

Instead of the bare MDF ( I think that's what they're made of ) look I decided to give them a paintjob themed for my army however, in a way that they stand out on the battlefield ( instead of getting lost in the terrain ) and so that one can see the numbers clearly from a little distance aswell. They are supplied with another pointer for the turn counter, an eagle wing of sorts that is pointing upwards. I wasn't too keen on that one however and went with the alternative instead.

Let it symbolize the fact that time is running out and Chaos will win, if my Inquisitorial Strike Force doesn't purge the mutant, the heretic, in time.

Scouts ready:

One of them is all "Bring it son, I'm ready to ascend to Astartes status."

Next up I will be writing the quickshading tutorial. I'm sure most have the practice quite clear, but maybe I can squeeze a few tips and tricks in there.

Thanks mate, appreciate it.

For those interested, I have now completed a guide to quickshading with personal pointers added, it can be found here:

Next up in my project will be a Land Speeder Storm for the Scouts, and then some characters.

Highlighting before dipping is fab as the dip blends it nicely. I run a simple orange drybrush highlight to my red Marines armour before Quickshading and it looks ace.

Thanks. Dipping and quickshading are indeed pretty much the same thing - I feel "dipping" might not be correct in the way I use it, as I don't actually dip the miniatures in the solution but use a brush instead.
