Does anybody have any tips for sculpting eyes? I'm working on some nurgle conversions and to set the plaguemarines apart from the normal marines Im giving them a plaguebearer like face with one eye. The one's I've done so far have been made using the same techniques used for making boils and all that grossness. Thanks!

I hollow out the eye-sockets first.

Then I press a tiny ball-bearing into the socket, just as it is about to set (so that I can make sure the eyes get set to the correct depth) - you can buy ball-bearings online. Eyes for miniatures are roughly .25mm - .75mm in diameter.

Then, after the head has hardened, I layer over the balls the lids.

This gives a hard surface to get the eye-lids cut into to the right thickness.

And it gives a nice surface over which to paint the details of the eye.

I don't like eyes that have sculpted-in details like pupils or irises.

The ball bearing idea is a great idea, as it will have a hole in the centre. However for me, im not worried about pupils and the such so I generally do this;

Create a ball of GS, press that where I want it and make sure it keeps an eye shape, sometimes I will poke in a pupil using something pointy and thin, I then let harden, once hardened like Beafraid I add the eye lids. Its much easier when the eye is already set. I take two small sausages places them across the top and work away from the eye (as this helps make sure you have a nice curved edge on the eyelid side.
