Hey guys!

Just started painting warhammer. And I am looking for a website with detailed guides (such as paint being used) and cool looking miniatures for inspiration? Is there such a place?

Thank you so much.

But the forums can be pretty confusing, and half of the the people post a mini, it doesn't come with a painting guide or paint selection... :(

I highly recommend the Duncan Rhodes videos -- the official GW ones on YouTube. He's very good at explaining basic to intermediate techniques, and the models are all start-to-finish.

Just look for the "how to paint" videos on:

https://www.youtube.com/user/GamesWorkshopWNT

(some are product teasers and releases)

The Duncan Rhodes video on the DVD that comes with the "How to Paint Citadel Miniatures" book is also excellent as a starter's resource/tutorial.

Thanks guys for the advice!

I found Duncan's videos last night and really enjoy them... The problem is that he doesn't the specific model i bought... What i'm really looking for is a guide for that model.. And googling how to paint stone horn - doesn't help me that much..

Welcome to Dakka!

I'll second the GW tutorial videos, they are very handy for beginners, well-made (clear sound quality, stable camera) and at every step you're told exactly what paints, brushes and methods to use.

I'd also just suggest a humble Google search for the techniques you want to learn. Within the first page your usually get videos, written tutorials and step-by-step to suit your preference. If you come across a site with a bunch of good ones, bookmark it!

As a final note, while people on here might not post a guide with their minis in their Showcase or Blog, you'll find the vast majority of painters will be willing to share their methods if you just ask!

If you can't find a specific guide, then just break down your model into various textures/styles and look up tutorials for each of those. For example, you might find a guide to painting fur on a Space Wolves tutorial, then a piece on battered armour in an Orc one, and stone on a basing guide ect. All of these techniques are applicable across any models, so once you can learn fur/metal/stone/blood/whatever on one mini, you can just apply the techniques to anything you like!

The more you paint, the easier it'll get!
