My first earnest attempt at Alclad chrome. Wanted to accentuate the sleekness of the ship by making it a shiny version of the standard color scheme, so I sprayed the whole works in chrome, and sprayed the top with clear red and gloss black to keep the reflective effect: Also learned how hard it is photographing a reflective surface and getting the contrast correct on the camera, lol. This was my first photo set taken with my new backdrop, instead of the glaring white.

Very nice work. Have you considered painting up some of the gems to add more detail/break up the solid colour a little?

That is freaking awesome. Huge fan of the chrome. Good work. You have a really even coat. Is that spray paint or air brush?

I second the "paint the gems" idea. It looks unfinished. Pretty badass, but unfinished nevertheless.

The metallic red is well done, but it looks unfinished.

as well as the gems, the guns, jet intakes and exhausts would benefit from some attention.

Really it was a test piece for the chrome work. I didn't want to do other colors for the gems b/c it would interfere with the chrome. I thought putting clear greens and blues would mess with the aesthetic of what I was trying to do. I paint for paintings' sake, not for an army of any particular origin. To me, having painted gems after the fact would break up the clear chrome work...the reflective surface with gem paint seemed odd to me. Doing clear over chrome of any other color (green/blue/whatever) also seemed odd in my minds eye, so I left them red. Simple as that.

Under the couch

Looks sexy as hell (I particularly love the chrome underside), but I would agree that some flat elements (the gems, or some pinstriping, or even just some icons scattered about would help to give it more of the look of a functional plane rather than just a shiny display piece.

And that's pretty much what it is...a concept piece, not a showcase. Its tough to shade and highlight chrome.

The biggest issue for me is all the dust on the model. If it's under the paint, it completely ruins the chrome finish. If it's on top of the paint, then a simple dusting before photos will fix it right up.

High sheen finishes like this will amplify any and every flaw.
