Hey guys saw this is a batrep the other day and thought it was amazing, but then questioned the ruling.
Are you allowed to use the invocation of the elements while embarked in a Devilfish, because I know
I have played others who use SM and Eldar and both of them can't use special abilities while embarked.

You may, due to this Rule found in the Transport section of the book:
If the players need to measure a range involving the embarked unit (except for its shooting), this range is measured to or from the vehicle’s hull.
- Embarking

To my knowledge nothing in the Embarking process removes the ability to evoke a Special Rule on the Model by default. It is often Line of Sight or Range requirements that can not be achieved while the Models are off the table, and the above Rule specifically overcomes the issue concerning Range. Therefore the only thing preventing any Special Rule form being evoked is if it has some sort of internal clause preventing it from being used while Embarked, or requirements that Line of Sight be achieved as part of the process. Now I have not looked at the Invocation of the Elements Special Rule in question in detail, but from memory I do not recall anything stating that it can only be used if the Model is physically on the table and it does not require Line of Sight to the Ethereal.

It is far more likely that some of your opponents have overlooked this Rule or ignore it because they think it is 'silly' to allow off-the-table Models to influence the game, as has been voiced on these forums in the past.

Do take note:
It is generally accepted that the word 'it's' within the exception put forth is a typo... else line-of-sight ignoring weapons do strange things like materializing missiles inside a transport!

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.
