So after a disappointing 2nd place finish in my last tournament I'm thinking I'll do something different next time. The last Tourney allowed no super heavies or gargantuans so I could get away with the low damage output of my Crons. However this tourney allows anything except Unbound. So thinking a Thunderknightstar would allow me to deal with both big bads and MSU (by splitting off Characters). Here goes:

RAVENWING STRIKE FORCE
Libby: lvl2: bike 110
Libby: lvl2: bike 110
6 Ravenwing Command: Banner, Apothecary, Champ 295
Darkshroud: 80
Landspeeder Typhoon: 75
Landspeeder Typhoon: 75
Landspeeder Typhoon: 75
Landspeeder: AssCann 70

CHAMPIONS OF FENRIS
Wolfguard Battle Leader: TWC, SS, RA, TH 170
Wolfguard Battle Leader: TWC, SS, RA, TH 170
Iron Priest: TWC, 2 Cyberwolves 135
Iron Priest: TWC, 2 Cyberwolves 135

Fun for the whole family!

How many detachments does this tournament allow? Would it benefit (assuming you could) use the Landspeeders as the Ravenwing Support formation?

Also, did the Ravenwing Strike Force get FAQ'd? If it did not, the DA librarians on bikes do NOT have the ravenwing rule. This may have been addressed already in the FAQ, if so disregard.

It allows as many detachments as you want. The Support Squad is all one unit I need some MSU to help the star score.

No FAQ yet on the Ravenwing so I'll play them without the RW rule but I'm clearly allowed multiple HQs.

replace a DA libby and one WGBL and a landspeeder with a Conclave possibly?

It's a formation requirement for the HQ...

I'm aware of that I address that in my post, as stated you can clearly take multiple HQs.

I can see the benefit of the Conclave but I worry that losing 5 S10 attacks will cost me vs Knights. I'll have a look at that though it is certainly a good idea. At 1750 that would be an auto include but I'm worried about killing power at 1500 particularly vs MSU.

The ravenwing detachment requires you to take an HQ with the ravenwing trait. Librarians only have the Deathwing trait and just because you put them on a bike you don't gain ravenwing. Its a mistake in the book but the only legal HQ for that detachment is sammael or sableclaw. Your list isn't legal without one of them.

This has already been addressed twice in this very thread. Despite your claim the Detachment clearly allows multiple HQs. Do you have anything valuable to add?

It specifically says all models in this detachment must have the ravenwing trait. Go read the detachment. You don't have the trait.

I think what he's trying to say is that the intent is clear that other HQ's should be able to be chosen as HQ's for that formation. And "obvioulsy" that means any HQ on a bike. And such it is legal.

RAW rules and RAI are two different beasts. Since the OP mentioned that this was going to be in a tournament environment, it is safe to assume that without an FAQ this list may have difficulties getting approved.

If you use the Ravenwing Support Squadron with those speeders, I think you'd get much better results.

If they want to play the RaW game then RaW I am allowed multiple HQs. There is no way to field multiple HQs with the Ravenwing special rule, thus RaW breaks. Also if they want to play that game they'll lose as soon as their D Weapons all stop working, or they attempt to fire Grav at a mixed save unit. RaI is rife on the tournament scene because the game immediately breaks down if you try to apply strict RaW. I have no worries this list will be allowed. I may even get Ravenwing on my Libbies (though I'm not counting on it or assuming it).

Having just 2 units on the table does not get more for me. No one wants to charge the death star and an overwatch from the Land speeders doesn't really change that. However only have 2 units on the board in the early game can really hamper my scoring.

But to Flingitnow when the RAW break it doesn't break in a way that gives you more choices. It breaks in a way that grid locks you with Sammael. While I think you'll have other options at some point I'm not entirely convinced this was not intention all their part

List looks pretty good if you can keep them away from your backfield by running your guys up fast enough

And drop pods cannot arrive because they do not have the Deep Strike rule! this would be fun.

So you genuinely believe that they put 2 extra HQ slots in there for mad lolz y'all? Have fun with D Weapons that do nothing ever

remind me what the D weapon thing is?

The ATC tournament FAQ does allow HQ without the ravenwing rule. ITC will likely rule that way in a few weeks, but it's not allowed yet. I think any causal player should be fine with it, and most local TO's will be fine unless they hate DAngles for some reason.

You roll on the D Weapon table for each MODEL hit but shooting and close combat attacks never generate hits on models but on units.

this is appealing for ravenwing players because only four space wolf models are required (or eight with the wolves i guess). Have you tried this out? is it countered hard by flying circuses?

Not sure what Flying circuses you think cause this a problem? Twinlinked plasma worries FMCs quite a lot add in 2+ rerollable jink, 3++ and FnP and you're pretty gravy.
