Hi, I havent played 40k since 4rth edition. I used to play Alpha Legion/Thousand sons but when the new Chaos Dex came out, I quit.
However I have been collecting and painting a Blood Ravens tactical squad and a librarian for some time now. The Librarian it's done and the squad will be finished soon - it has a missile launcher and a melta gun - and I am thinking on going for a Rhino or some Veterans.

So my question here would be, could anyone suggest me a good army list to start?

I was thinking about going with:

Librarian with Plasma Pistol
Chaplain with Bolt pistol

x10 Tactical Squad with Missile launcher and melta and veteran sarge.
W Rhino
x10 Tactical Squad with x2 Plasma Guns and veteran sarge with chainsword.
x7 Sniper scouts
x5 Assault Space Marines with powerfist(I know and I have heard that they arent a very good fast attack choice but I like how they look) Will probably replace it with a Land Speeder or a Bike squad later.

And finally I was thinking on getting a 5 man devastator squad. But I am not quite sure yet.
I would really appreciate some help and councel.
P.S. I will post some pictures of my army tomorrow, altought I am not sure if this is the right place to do so.

If your group accepts home-brew rules, take a look at this:

https://img.4plebs.org/boards/tg/image/1402/29/1402293575904.pdf

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Veteran sergeants aren't worth the points, and generally I'd stick with the trusty bolt gun (you're rarely going to want to charge something and the +1A isn't worth the loss of the bolter, IMHO).

Heavy weapons in tac squads aren't great, as you lose mobility to use them, or damage output from the rest of the squad if you're engaging at range. I'd save them for a dedicated unit (devastators in a bunker maybe, or lascannon predators).

Plasma pistols just aren't worth it, ever.

Not sure you can have two plasma guns in a tac squad?

You need more DT's - either drop pods, or rhinos, or razorbacks. Mobility is key. If you can get enough stuff together consider the battle company (free transports!! - and everything has obsec).

The real strength of space marines is in their toys. So to load up on too many marines will mean you are spending more points in just average troops than almost any opponent out there. And boltguns are largely unimpressive.

I would cut down the size of the tac squads, to get something with a little more punch to it on the battlefield. A stormtalon, a thunderfire cannon, a drop pod with a meltagun command squad in it, something like that.
I usually try to keep my troop choices to a minimum so I can get fancier stuff out there. If you were thinking about a devastator squad, then go for it. They are great and can put out a lot of damage. I like running all missile launchers, but I have also had some luck running 2 lascannons and 2 missile launchers. Although Grav-Cannons being salvo 3/5, means you can put them in a drop pod and do some work on the alpha strike. Oh and Drop Pods are one of the best transports in the game, and space marines are really lucky to have them. Always use them in odd numbers to take advantage of their special rule. so use 1 or 3 or 5.

Crunch aside, if you want to field a fluffy list, I would look at the librarian concalve. A group of powerful psykers feeding off of eachother's powers sounds totally like Blood Ravens to me.

What chapter tactics were you thinking on going with? Ultramarines is seriously one of the best out there, but if you are using that many tactical marines, the Imperial Fists would work very well also.

Thank you all for the comments and councel!

I am definitely thinking about going for Ultramarine rules since the Blood Ravens are a codex adherent chapter, Plus they have Tigurius. I was also thinking about Crimson Fists but Imperial Fists having tough Tacticals sounds really nice too.

I am definitely getting a couple of drop pods after I get my Rhino ready. I heard of a guy that had a squad with grav gun, heavy grav gun and a grav pistol is that any good? Like I said I am alien to the grav weapons cause I am more old school in the sense of not playing any 40k since 4th edition.

Ok so the list so far I am thinking could go like this:

Librarian:

8x Tac squad with melta.
w 1x Rhino
8x Tac Squad with grav gun, heavy grav gun and sargent with grav pistol.
w Drop Pod.
8x Devastators with 2 missile launchers and 2 Las Canons -maybe heavy bolters or plasma canons?
5x Sniper Scouts
