Did I get you interested with the obscure title? Good.

I am thinking of putting together a Baneblade company. It's going to consist of 3 Beihnblehds, and will be led by a Hellhammer, named The Thunder God, thanks to having been unable to stop listening to this song all day yesterday.

But I have no idea what to name the other two tanks, and I'm not sure which variants to go with. For the question of which 'blades to use, I already have a thread made. But I am not exactly an expert on Norse lore, and I was hoping someone would have an idea.

Somewhere between England and New Zealand.

I don't know I quite like the idea of the lead Hellhammer being called Thor and the other two being called Thunder and Lightning instead.

Tyr, as a god of war, bravery, and dedication (stuck his hand in Fenris's mouth as part of a bargain with Fenris in order to give ... someone a chance to bind Fenris with a magic cord. Fenris bit off the hand when he found he could not escape).

Could use Odin if any of those variants are some kind of command vehicle.

Magni and Modi are Thor's sons. Wiki says their names mean Strong and Anger.

I like the idea of the two Baneblades being named after Thor's sons, like they're following in his footsteps. Or tread tracks.

Hammer of the Emperor and all that.

Not exactly Norse lore, but you could go with Captain America and hulk/ iron man.

Maybe The Great Shield, The Unstoppable Force or Hominem Ferro.

It's the best suggestion in the thread so far.

Personally I'd go with either Odin, Loki, or Tyr for the other two as they are the most recognizable names.

*has done some research (googling)*

Loki and Thor did consider themselves blood-brothers. I won't do Odin, as he ranked higher than Thor, being the big daddy of the gods.

So make Odin the main tank and Thor the second!

I always think of Odin from FF8, he was such a bad ass...

I could do that. Or name tank 3 Balder, after the /other/ son of Odin.

Maybe I should acquire four blades, and have a Shadowsword be Odin.

I like the idea of Odin being a Shadowsword. Odin's spear was said to never miss and kill whatever it struck. Very appropriate.

Loki would be too associated with Chaos gods to likely be used by any Imperial army with a Norse bent. Loki did do things that helped the Aesir, but he was supposed to be the one bringing about Ragnarok.

Name the other ones Donar and Perun, the West Germanic and Slavic thunder gods.
Alternatively, name the other two Oak and Hammer, two things associated with the thunder god.
If you want to have only Norse names (overused as they may be), go with Baldr and Vali, brothers to Thor.

Hmmm...

It's a good thing I haven started writing anything onto actual baneblades yet.

The sons aesthetic works, as does the brother aesthetic...
I'm not going to use Odin in the triplet of tanks, due to adding overuse onto an overused naming stylism.
I'm not sure I'd use Oak and Hammer as names...

Naming all three after thunder gods could work...

Depends how "awesome" names you want.

Magne and Modig means chieftain and brave as far as I know. They were rather obscure figures in norse religion, and Magne was half Jotun with the troll woman Jarnsaxa if i'm not mistaken.

Thor was the thunder god and the defeater of the Jotuns.

Thors goats, that pulled his wagon was named Tanngrisner and Tanngjost. Which loosely translated means biter and grinder. They ate human meat and could be butchered every day but ressurected. Kind of like a Baneblade is recovered no matter what if it can be helped. https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanngrisner_og_Tanngnjost

Thors servants were named Tjalve and Roskva. Roskva is feminime for "the quick one", or fast girl. Surely a good name for a lumbering and slow behemoth like a Baneblade or Banehammer that can fit an 8 man crew.

Tyr was the god of war, and a prominent indo-european god that later became less significant. His arm was bitten off by the Fenris wolf. Tuesday are named after him.

Odin (Wotan) was the chieftain of the gods, father of Tor and the only male that could use magic (seid) without being accused of homosexuality.

MjĂžlner was Thors hammer. It always returned to his hand, and would slay any jotun he threw it at. Many things are named after his hammer. There is also the spear Grugne that never missed its target, as well as

I have a trio of baneblades as well, named Vrejd (angry), Vile og Ve. The last two after Odins brothers, clever tricksters and banished foolhards, though I'm going to change one of them to Tingeling (tinkerbell) or Roskva (the fast one, thors servant) and the other two to Solveig and Gullveig, as I think such large tanks doesnt need the name of kings and gods to be awesome. Even the Germans named their largest tanks for Maus (mouse) ironically. WIll relegate the Ve, Vile og Vrejd names to a trio of Leman Russes I have though.
