Subject: Converting the Space Marine Captain?

Anyone have any experience converting GW's current Space Marine Captain model?
Looking at the sprue the sword arm, head and back pack don't look to hard to change. the grav gun and chest look adjustable maybe with a bit of knife work.
I was debating swapping out the weapons, head and pack on him and maybe also using blood angels nipple armour chest plate instead of the one it comes with if it's doable.
Can anyone provide advise on this?
Thanks

I'd advise agaisnt using the SM captain, use the space marine commander. lots of bits to allow for customization and all the bits not conencted to it should work just fine. better value if you wanna build your own unique commander

What you are going to be doing should be done pretty easily. The chest piece, Combi-Grav, and waist armor are all one piece, so putting the Blood Angels molded chest armor on should be quite simple. The only issue is that the groin area is molded to accept the normal piece, so you will probably have to rebuild that area with green stuff.
I made my Blood Angels Captain using the Space Marine Commander kit and parts from the Blood Angels Tactical Squad and Death Company Squad. It was definitely easier than using the Clam Pack Captain would be, also a lot cheaper. I made my other Crimson Fists Captain using the Space Marine Commander kit.
I am going to be converting a Clam Pack Captain into a Crimson Fists Captain by cutting the Combi-Grav off an putting a Power Fist there instead. I would take the Power Sword off and put a Bolt Pistol on. Since I already have a Power Sword Captain, I want to make a Power Fist Captain as well since I run a Fists army with next to no Power Fists in it. I do like the Clam Pack Captain's pose better than the Space Marine Commander, and I want different poses and appearances for them.

I would use the commander but the cape on it looks naf. I debated getting a space wolf cloak and painting it up leopard skin like sanguinius has in the art but can't find a space wolf player who has one spare at my FLGS.
The tac squad box Sergeant torso has a bit of a cloth down the front of the groin so hopefully that'll cover it so long as I can get it to work with the legs.
The only conversion i've found of this captain online is infact a crimson fists one, here's the link if your interested @Casvalremdeikun

Found that image, which is what spurred me to do this conversion in the first place! I am actually going to be using many of the same parts as the one in question. The Power Fist is from the Sternguard kit, which is what I am going to be using. I HATE helmetless Marines, so I will find a different head to give him. I love kitbashing stuff, so this is going to be fun.
You are right in that the kit will probably be fine with the half tabard covering the front. If there is a gap, Green Stuff to the rescue! Another note, for the left arm, you will have to cut the upper part off to attach a new arm. The right arm is pretty easy to work with since you just have to shave off the peg that goes into the kit's normal arm.

Awesome, thanks for the tips. What are your thoughts on the standards attached to the back packs? i think they look impractical and wasn't gonna give mine one.
He's gonna have the a sang guard axe, BA power sword and one of the 'knight' helmets.
I'm gonna say the axe and sword are special and have the stats of a fist and claw so I get the extra attack, shred and the choice of which to use.

I go back and forth on back banners. My Chapter Master, Pedro Kantor, has one by virtue of his model having one (and it was a pain in the ass to get a pewter banner to stay in place). I have a Blood Angels Sergeant that has a back banner, but none of my other Blood Angels models have them. I am definitely going to put the banner on this new Captain model.
The Fist and Claw thing sounds like a fairly good plan, but very points intensive. Honestly, with Furious Charge and the AP2 relic Power Sword, you would be better off just using that. The relic is best of both worlds. Plus there are a lot of really cool looking Blood Angels swords. And then you can have some ranged weaponry as well.

I think i'm gonna give mine some kind of chalice/halo thing on his back pack
True, I never really know what to do with ranged weaponry on close combat characters like captains though. Pistols would be best but the inferno pistol is only 6" range, hand flamers are only S3 AP6 and plasma pistols can over heat and also they're all so expensive for what they are.

For the most part, if you are close enough to charge, you are close enough for an Inferno Pistol. Yes, you are probably not going to be able to get much out of the Melta effect, but Str 8 AP1 is going to put a dent in a lot of stuff. The Hand Flamer is too low on AP for my liking, so I would avoid it. Plasma Pistols are not as bad as people always preach. Your Captain comes with a good armor save, a lot of wounds, and will likely be sporting FNP through a number of ways, so the likelihood of the plasma pistol overheating and actually hurting him is quite low. Grav Pistols suffer from much the same issue as the Inferno Pistol, but lack the ability to put the hurt on vehicles as easily. You could just go cheap and give him a bolt pistol and use the points you would have used for an expensive pistol toward the Veritas Vitae. Automatically Appended Next Post: Always remember, though, that a lot of the fun of this game is modeling stuff that looks cool and you like seeing on the table.

Hmmm... You speak with great wisdom. Might have to do some proxying to decide.
That's a problem I have, I try hard to cover all the fluff, looks and rules bases and its real hard work sometimes. Worth it in the end though.
