Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions
|
So i have been playing warhammer 40k for a long while and not until now did i realise how unfun this game is starting to get, especially if you are playing a broken army that really needs an update (chaos space marines). so let me brief you guys... the place i play at 1/4 of the guys that come in are cheeto breath nerds that go full tryhard with their necron armies, they critizize every move i make and they roll the dice too fast for me to see and dont ask if i could jink and or anything, plus today someone had rolled his warlord traits three times because he was trying to figure out if his army was bound or unbound. so ya, then we have the army that he fields picture this... an entire army of scarabs, wraiths, and warriors with the decurion and the crypteks, so baisically untouchable, and he calls me cheesy for bringing in belakor when he brings a transcendent ctan from the apocalypse book, so what can i do, i have to play this guy and i cant do much, so im hoping you guys of the dakka dakka forrum could help me, here is what i got , oh and we play malestorm always..
biker lord
daemon prince
x6 bikes
x40 cultists
x40 marines
x4 rhinos
x1 forgefiend
x1 defiler
x3 heldrakes
x5 sorcerers (dont ask why)
x5 raptors
x4 obliterators
so there it is, i cant really have fun playing 40k anymore when every game i have to field the most competitve stuff that i hate, but we have a gaming season and i dont want to let my team down so any thoughts and sorry for crying a little, if you dont play chaos space marines then what are your counters for this time of army list (necrons)
love

Chaos Marines are not a very competitive army at the moment, which is a shame.
For a start, I would recommend giving your lord, oblitz and bikers the mark of nurgle, run your marines as plague marines and take them with plasma guns assuming you're not already doing this.
One or two heldrakes is good, but three is probably too many. The defiler can be left on the shelf for purely competitive games. Maulerfiends are pretty good if you're open to the idea of getting more models.
How many pts are you playing at and what kind of lists have you been running?

Sekhmet - Dynasty 4000pts Greenwing - 2000pts Deathguard - 1500pts Daemons of Nurgle - 1000pts ~320pts

The main problem are your opponents.
Calls you cheesy for bringing Belakor but uses the Transcedent rules from Apocalypse? Not only is this laughable, but it's also illegal, you have to use the ones from the Codex.
You can never roll your Warlord Trait more than onceso there was cheating there. Also slowing down dice so that the opponent can see what you rolled is respectable, as is asking if you want to Jink.
I for one would just ignore criticising of my moves. For all you know, I could be luring you in and take apart your army once the trap is sprung.
I'd also try and find other opponents to play against in store if possible. From what I read, you've got 3/4 of the usual players who sound like much more enjoyable and pleasant experiences than these power gamers.
Counters for Necrons include stuff that ignores RP and the armour save or at least, makes them take just one save. Helldrakes will put in a serious shift against Necrons.
Oh, and I'd totally go Daemon summoning spam against these guys. If you're playing Maelstrom, then you're not playing Kill Points, so summoning things to plonk on objectives and tarpit will shift the balance in your favour.

Having no game is preferable to having one with a bad opponent. Seriously, I get the feeling that any advice people here could give you would be negated by your opponent's cheating/being straight-up unpleasant.
For the love of all that is 40k, find some new opponents.
(Bonus: the only effective counter to Necrons is CC. This does not apply against Wraiths.)

Fixed that for you.
Seriously.
If they don't have guns, stay far away from them. (trust me, you do not even want to get into combat with Flayed Ones, let alone Lychguard, unless it's to tarpit them)
But if these cheesy arseholes are playing Scarab Farm, counter with templates. The more the better, to double them out. Helldrakes, as has been suggested already, are great because they also negate all Necron armor.
But as I mentioned above, tarpit. It is the worse thing that can happen to a Necron player. Counter their tarpits (Wraiths) with your own, wherever possible. Now they're useless for a bunch of turns.
And get rid of those bikes as soon as you can. That's going to be the only unit he's got to score with.
Don't know what to do about the C'tan douchery. If he's cheating and you're still willing to play, *shrug*.
But yeah, perhaps it's Daemon Factory time?

And here I always thought Canadians were the nicest people on the planet. The OP has just shattered my world-view.
Anyway, I assume these games are taking place at a game-store or club? If it's a store, where is the owner? I know he can't turn A-holes into pleasant people, but he can say things like "Hey....knock the dice shinanigans off or you won't get table time" or make a house rule for jinking like "if you don't ask your opponent if he'd like to jink before rolling the dice, your opponent gets to say he's jinking after you roll" which, honestly, is just common courtesy.
Then there's the Trancendent C'tan from the Apocalypse book, which apparently, from what I read, could still be considered legal as a Lord of War even though the Necron Codex has the Trancendent C'tan updated to the Heavy slot. I personally wouldn't view the apocalypse Tranny C'tan as legit in one of MY lists, but everyone's different, and you did say these guys were A-hole tryhards. Either way, if your store or club manager(s) can't make and enforce some sort of ruling on how to deal with the duality of the Tranny C'tan, at least make sure he's fielding him at the appropriate point cost. I mean...the cheapest it'll ever be is around 650pts, and it can go all the way up to 890pts if outfitted with the most expensive upgrades. Ask them how much the C'tan costs next time you see them...if they're only spending 250ish or whatever it is in the new codex, then they're REALLY taking some extreme liberties.
So yeah...if people are making the game un-fun for a lot of people at your store / club, someone in position of authority needs to squash that crap out. If, however, you're in the minority and are surrounded by people whose idea of fun is opposite yours (to put it nicely...I could just call them cheaters based on your description of them), then it's time to find some new people to play against.

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Thanks for the replies and I guess I wasn't too specific, the store owner does play necrons and he doesn't care what's happening and I give him the false illusion that I'm having a great time because I don't want to hurt his feelings and for the 3/4 of the other players in my club they are hopping on the aos bandwagon, so I'm kinda forced on playing these guys, I have always dreamed of playing daemon spam but I just don't have the money, around $100 oh and the type of lists I have ran are small msu units of chaos space marines or plague marines (if I have the points) with plasma and melt trying to get the objective with the chaos daemons daemon prince (a must have for me since he is my favorite model ever regardless of competitvness) some nurgle bikers for my lord and invising them from afar with my sorcerers, he rarely brings the ctan but only in high point games does he actually bring it and high point games are what got me into the hobby, and we are allowed to bring apocalypse formations to the table regardless of the game type so that's why I have so many sorcererers for the thousand son war coven and the fear squadron

This is one of those cases where both entries are correct, except one isn't in the main codex and requires the Escalation book. Kinda like with the Chimera in the =][= book compared to elsewhere.
