Subject: Help with Daemonkin anti-tank

Hardened Veteran Guardsman

I'm still pretty new to daemonkin and I've been having some trouble against mech lists. I only have 1k points so far, my list looks like this:
DP with blood armor and wings
2x 8 cultists
7 possessed (for formation)
2x 5 flesh hound (models on the way to increase to 10 each, will be part of goretide)
2x10 bloodletters
I'm looking to expand to 1850-2k. What should I get? fleshhounds and DP are good against lighter vehicles but I've been having trouble against land raiders and some walkers. Maulerfiends seem great against tanks but are they able to get into combat? They've only got 12 armor, so not sure. Any advice? looking for more anti-tank and more deepstriking units to go with my fast moving units.
What I'm definitely getting:
- Rhino for possessed
- 2x 4 bikes with 2 melta guns
What I might get:
- maulerfiend
- bloodthirster (which one?)
- 10 raptors
- 5 warp talons
- 5 terminators
thanks for the help

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.
Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

Take the bloodthirster first of all, with the d axe because chaos space marine players like myself lack d weapons, next I would recommend having allies with the chaos space marInes and get some obliterators for deep striking meta (that should deal with the anti tank stuff) although lots of people like the malerfiend I never really liked it I rather have obliterator take out the anti tank stuff and if you are interested (this might not be fluffy) but if you go for allies in the csm codex I would use a ml 3 sorcerer and go for telepethy and try to get invisibility and cast it on your dogs or bloodthirster

If you plan to run the gore pack the 2 units of melta bikers is an auto include and adds some nice anti tank. Give them melta bombs for added pop. Maulerfiends and grinders can also help out. Furious charging dog packs can pop light tanks like rhinos, chimeras, or any rear 10AV with decent success.

I know terminators are looked down upon, but a mark of khorne terminator with a chainfist has rage, which means 4 attacks each at Str8 armourbane. I killed my buddy's shadowsword with a unit of 5 in a land raider (they were packing meltas too) and still had multiple chainfist swings unresolved. Stupid expensive unit, though.

S9 if you have the Icon. Fairly expensive but with the formation and blood tithes bonuses they can become pretty sick.

I agree, especially if you can manage to pop the feel no pain reward from the blood tithe the turn you take the big risk with them and deepstrike/pop them out of the land raider. Or if your assault is guaranteed, the +1 attack can help a damaged squad blow things up regardless of losing part of the squad previously.

Thanks for the help guys! Terminators are an interesting suggestion, I'm thinking of a multipurpose unit, 5 guys, 3 combi-meltas, 2 chain-fists, 1 heavy flamer; 221 points isn't too much for that.
A Soul Grinder is another unit I'm considering, especially since I just found out they can deep strike. Seems pretty cheap at 160 points with warp gaze (or maybe the battle cannon). Should be able to deal with most vehicles. A 2nd maulerfiend is on the list for next month. I've got $200 on this month's budget. I'm probably going to be getting a Rhino, a maulerfiend, 8 bikes, and either a soul grinder or 5 terminators.
CSM allies are something I want to add once I get some more pure daemonkin. Definitely right about the sorcerer, Can always use more summoning.

Ofc this will depend on your group, but If you get access to the IA13 khorne dedicated units, there is plenty that can pop a tank.
With how much of a pressure a DAemonkin army already put on the enemy, a deepstriking blood slaughterer or two will either take pressure of the main army or they WILL wreck face. and potentially they can even deepstrike assault. Automatically Appended Next Post: Or now the new knights and kytans, if they haven't been mentioned yet.

Even crazier is to put a Herald of Khorne with the Hatred Locus with those Chainfist terminators, and go to town!

If you are allying with CSM, you could take Kharn with the Terminators and he could be the Warlord to give them Hatred. And then the Jugger Herald with Locus of Hatred could ride with the Hounds.
Walkers and Land Raiders are the only armor they have a tougher time dealing with in assault. Most everything else has rear AV11 at most, and Furious Charge Hounds can even deal with that en masse.
That said, take melta bombs everywhere you can!

If you're going to take a soul grinder, I would recommend the torent flamer option, especially if your deepstriking. It's deadly and accurate and with the iron claw, you can hunt vehicles in CC better than with a single 50/50 warp gaze, or short range battlecannon.
However, I would recommend a 2nd maulerfiend (I like 2 in my CSM army so much, I got a third ready for assembly now), for anti tank.
Food for though, consider a defiler w/all ccw. Still has a battle cannon in it's chest and with 3 powerfists and a powerscourge, it has 7 attacks on the charge and can benefit from the blood tithe bonuses like rage or +1 attack. With fleet for added charge reroll and the flail to lower other dread's weapon skill. They're far from the "best", but once you try one (or better yet, two), you'll be shocked at how they can eat through the heaviest armour.

Should take a Power Sword so you get the additional attack (at least that's what 4dchan is saying now). I still have yet to see my Goredrinker get out of control because he either dies too quickly or my Maulterfiends and Bloodthirster are wrecking so much face he never gets to do anything, but I still like the idea of it enough to spend the points on it.

With the claws you get shred though, on top of the buffs. It helps with building up goredrinker. To me, buffing goredrinker faster is worth more than the 1 attack. Of course that depends on how confident you are with your rolls lol.

without reading other comments, I have to say taking 2-3 maulerfiends is nasty.
if you have that many, along with scouting fleshounds, and other, large amounts of "in your face turn one" units, They are quite survivable because A12 and a 5++ is quite nice, and with large amounts of them, they won't drop turn one.
happy wargaming,
