Since the GW Mechanicus codices came out I have been both happy and slightly disappointed. I am more a converter and painter than a gamer, but I still like to build my models around a codex - for the fluff and to have a playable force for the occasional game. Before the new codices I used the old Tempus Fugetives codex. I am really happy the GW finally made an official codex, and I'm really impressed with the models - I find them really awesome on their own and also a perfect base for tons of conversions. I am however slightly disappointed by the units included - or perhaps I should say the lack of units included. Though the chosen units are cool enough, I find that too many of the extreme/iconic/mad/darktech/interesting units have been left out - as well as the lack of techpriests puzzles me. I miss walking artillery, servitors, menials, robots, tech assassins, protectors, skitarii consuls and saggitarii to name a few.
So I figured, since I only play friendly games, why not remedy this. This means I have planned on making a unit compendium with the units from the TF codex, the GW codices and the 30K units. Simply to be able to use all the most interesting units and models available, making the army look as I envision the AdMech would look on the battlefield - and then streamlining the TF codex use of weapons and rules to the official GW and FW stats ( I think I read that many tournaments allow 30k units - so I guess stats and points are pretty allright?)
SO this is where I need some help,I have borrowed the HH books but I have never played 30K or used the rules/models so I have no idea of which categories the various units/models in the HH books would fit into (elites, fast attack etc.).
If you have any suggestions on this or any other suggestions or comments please let me know. Also I have not played any games using formations or allies, so any problems/suggestions with regards to this would also be appreciated.

Hi Manus.

I know what you mean but I think using TF fandex is not the way forward. Unless it's your close friends, people aren't going to cool with it. I've also played admech since way before these gw codex dropped and have quite a collection of models that aren't mentioned. Outside of long time admech themed converters, noone know what TF is. I used to (and still do) proxy my favourite conversions as IoM faction (love Inquisition for this).

I have faith that FW will IA the 30k mechanicum so it's just a waiting game on that one. In my group, I have had some success in convincing people that 30k mechanicum is an ok ally for admech. Try this because at least it is a gw/fw product.

Anyway just wanted to say, I like your idea but you shouldn't spend too much time on it instead of other things.

Hi EPG

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. And I think you are right. I actually started writing down the units in various categories, but the number of units was far higher than I thought, so the idea is dropped as is. Instead I have started updating the TF codex entries, using official statlines from the GW codices and exchanging some of the more exotic TF grear with official gear.
This also means I'll post a few questions a suggestions here , to have opinions on some bits. I'd be glad if you give give yours when the occasion rise.
Luckily I only play friendly games so I will not have any problem using a TF/GW/FW combined army.

Have you got your models on display anywhere?

Hi Manus

To cut down on your workload you should convert TF from pdf to word doc and go from there. Save a lot of time retyping stat lines.

I do that with my .mobi codexes and edit out the fluff and pics, print and put in binders for take to friends house games. If you want copies of skitarii and admech as word docs, let me know.

I checked out your gallery and your stuff is awesome. I threw a few pics in mine but shy to say that your level completely blows mine away. Anyway, I use the termites as drop pods these days. Skitarri jumping out of termites looks a lot fluffier than SM pods. I went through a stage of recasting bits with oyumaru and resin so each termite cost like $3 ($2 of which was the tomato sauce bottle)..

Other than that, one of my favourite projects was 20 or so claw legged servitors which were armed per the techpreist auxillia in HH. I've been thinking about taking their arms off and molding up the long taser lance from ironstriders and using them as DKK cavalry.

Never used (or finished painting) the grav-rhinos. I think grav was in TF and when I saw this model in Bitspudlo I wanted. Please include grav propulsion as vehicle upgarde in your codex.

I had a few other projects are various stages. But these days, just buying gw minis - have at least 6 months of painting and lots of terrain to get through.

Interested to see your work in the future.

Hi ya

I think all the documents needed atm, and I have done just that - working in word. Actually I'm not rewriting the TF codex, but instead making a new my-own one from the TF one. So it will be more of a armylist without all the fluff and what not.
I have decided to leave out the Forge Knight as there now is an official "ally" army to use instead. I also think I'll leave out the Militaris, bar the secutor magus. The Cathaphractus might go the same way - as I have very little love for tanks the Neutrino Irradiater stays though, as I have the model
Finally I considering ditching the tier system - and simply designate all the units troops/elite/ heavy supp etc. I think it would make things a bit more simple.

Like your mini quite a lot. You would happen to have a spare set or two of those Grinder/fronts for the termites

Also those servitors are quite cool - is it blightwheel bodies with different legs or what?
