Sometimes I post stuff in my painting thread that I'm also proud enough that I put them over here, too, and I'm pretty damn happy with the Avatar (Notes)

There is not this idea.

Yeah, you have every reason to be proud of that. There are many neat little touches and details...

Brilliant model, brilliant paint job, really looks like living fire that's cooling off on the outside layers.

saw this on coolmini. isnt this really old? posting an old photo always makes me think its not the original artist. why would you post it AGAIN, do you really want people to applaud you another time or was someone else the artist (more likely the case....)

that being said if you ARE the artist post higher res photos/closeups because the one on CMON is better quality. it is an incredible paint job

Thanks, all, well almost :/.

Eosgreen, none of the above? I just posted it on CMON. It was a commission that's currently in the mail to the nice guy up in canada who requested a centerpiece with some specs.

I don't know what it is about the modeling community, but I've run into a ton of accusations of some form of dishonesty or other around fancy pieces and it's really aggravating.

What would be the advantage to lying about this stuff? I've been painting minis for commission for several years and have been active in gaming communities for going on a couple decades. Let's hypothetically say I were immoral and did want to somehow cheat a photo- Would the potential bad rep (in business or in the community in general) from faking something or overstating my abilities when trying to get a project be worth it? What would be the advantage to presenting old work as current unless I somehow was getting worse rather than better? I just don't understand why there's some desire to accuse.

Yeah, I could steal other people's photos and put my watermark on them, or pretend that old work is new. Hell, I could probably photoshop something pretty convincing from a stock photo to the point where at a glance it would look like it was painted without ever lifting a brush. I guess I could also get someone to ghost write my posts, or hire someone to do my job for me for some sort of ego trip.

But no, I don't lie about my work, and I'd thank you to not assume I do.

I posted this guy 'cause I spent a few days on him and thought he turned out really nicely, so if you really want to accuse me of something, I guess you can accuse me of showing off my model on a forum to show off your models.

Sorry everyone else that I didn't spend as much time on your posts, but I'm sick of people accusing me of stuff when I put in the extra effort. I really do appreciate your comments.

I think eosgreen is confusing yours with this one, as this really is up for quite some time

I guess it was taken as "inspiriation" considering the colour-choices.

Oh. Yep. I got a pic of that as a reference for the cooled rock effect the guy wanted. I try to spend very little time on CMoN since I don't like the environment, so didn't know it was an apparently famous model or something? Just looked like a nicely airbrushed idea that I was asked to roughly repeat in paint. Then again, I've never been able to tell the difference between nice and what causes peoples' heads to explode or w/e when it comes to the tool.

Sorry, not sure what you mean here- could you say it a different way?

And yeah, I think the mini's got an epic challenge pose.

To me it was always one of the most creepy models in the game. Great job man, it looks amazing. Has that scary and mysterious feel to it.

Looks bloody excellent!

The model definitely looks alive rather than a bit of resin/plastic with paint on it. A sign of a truly magnificent paint job. Really inspirational for aspiring painters like myself to try and get anywhere near that level.

That's some lovely work.

The fire on the cape could possibly do with a slightly brighter highlight, and he seems to be missing his bloody hand... But the colouring is superb, and I really like the red-hot top on his sword.
