So, I found some threads of the Ultramarines and Blood Angels fighting one another. Here they are.

When I first saw these threads, I couldn't believe my eyes. Why? Because I have played 3 games of BA and Ultramarines working together (2 were against nids, one was against orks-sorry, no batrep).

My question is, would BA and Ultramarines fight each other, or work together? I vote work together. What about you?

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

Dante has commanded Ultramarine forces before because he's ancient and knows stuff.

They're bros. They wouldn't fight one another. Call it wargames

The Rules have them as Battle Brothers, both being part of the Imperum of Man, so I lean towards being allies by default. That does not eliminate the whole 'can fight each other' possibilities that occur, thanks to the huge list of excuses you could use to justify such a battle. For the Imperium of Man, the go to default is 'You are Heretics, and we have orders to wipe you out!' This apparently occurs within actual cannon when Space Marines turn on Space Marines, so all it would take to is just a whiff of Heresy real or imagined....

All part of Chaos' plan to weaken two otherwise loyal faction.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

Very few Loyalist Chapters would outright engage in open hostilities with one another. Even the Blood Angels and the Space Wolves get along most of the time.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

To be fair, the Months of Shame were a thing. So against anybody that's not an Astartes? Probably, since mortals, specially Inquisitors, don't quite understand how varied SM's are. The Salamanders and Space Wolves love innocents and fight for them, yet the space.puppies get kicked for it.

It all depends on who's in command.

The Ultramarines may not like fighting with the Blood Angels - because of the Red Thirst and the possibility of them succumbing to the Black Rage - but they will for the Emperor.

They'd only fight each other if they believed the other to be heretics.

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

There's a good line about Space Marines in one of the Soul Drinker novels I think, an Imperial Guard commander explains to an underling that a Space Marine is created by taking a 12 year old who thinks he's invincible and then making him invincible.

Being the pinnacle of humanities warrior might they are awfully hormonal, if things go well when two chapters go to war together they wind up as bestest bestest buddies, if things go pear shaped they are likely to both throw a tantrum blaming the other. The Fire Hawks for example were renowned for abandoning untenable positions rather than heroically suffering needless losses, doing so whilst fighting alongside the Iron Hands once resulted in a feud that lasted for several centuries and was only settled by a dual to the death.

All evidence that I know of however points to the Smurfs and Blood Angels being bestest buddies. I'm pretty sure there is a line somewhere that specifically mentions both Calgar and Tu'Shan accepting Dante's superior experience and placing their *entire* chapters under his command during the Second Armageddon War, and there's also fluff about the Blood Angels sending a company to assist the hunting down of Hive Fleet Behemoth splinters after the Battle of Macragge as well I think.

I wouldnt mind if they advanced the story, and the IoM broke up into different realms ruled by space marines and commissars. That would make them fight each other all the time.

As it is, read the wonderfull Badab war in order to get inspiration as to how and why chapters would fight each others withouth going all chaos.

Let the galaxy burn.
