Hey guys,

Not sure how many of you are familiar with Painting Buddha, but it is a tutorial company that really puts out absolute top notch material, much of it for free on youtube. Here is an example of a few of their latest, showcasing minis from the AOS box -

(their Youtube main page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMyleo6g75R-bvGsus2oI8Q )

Basically they are now over a year in and trying to pivot on the business model, as many of you know, financial relaities in Europe and frankly everywhere else are quite volatile. Basically they want to move from a private subscription to doing more public, free stuff, but they need some art patrons to back them and make a little contribution for their videos when they make them. For example. I pledged them 3 bucks a video, to a max of 6 dollars a month. You can pledge them a buck a video to a max of 1 buck a month if you want. Basically, it is whatever you are comfortable with -

Now look, I know that sounds like asking for a hand-out. Maybe it is. But they literally have some of, if not the most talented mini guys working on their stuff. Ben Komets, certainly a top 10 painter and modeller is one of them, and watching him work to anyone serious about improving the level of their painting is pretty much priceless. For me, whom I consider a decent enough painter, I still learn a ton from this guy every time.

So, I encourage you guys to have a look at their tutorials and see the caliber of work I am talking about, and if you are so inclined, throw a buck or two a month at them, if you are gonna paint, you WILL benefit from this stuff being out there for you! Help if you can! Enjoy!

1.) Thank you Alphy
2.) Yeah, I have no idea how well known they are in greater community, but to me, without any partisanship of dogs in the race, Komets tutorials in particular are best in class. He is so damn good it is intimidating to see his results, especially at the beginning... but you really can't help but pick up some of what he is putting out. And really, He is part of my top 3 all-arounders with Bohun and Raffa.

Another of my favorite painting Buddha's was this ork -

I will be throwing the guys a few pennies when i can, the Stormcast eternal in NMM is one of the best tuts i have on NMM gold. Ben is my Fave of their painters and he and micheal 's (is that right) commentary is informative and funny at times.

These guys are definitely top notch. Sounds like an interesting proposition.

I stumbled onto their vids becausre YT recommended their Sigmarine tutorial. I clicked on it because I thought "damn, that's GREAT TMM gold, I'm looking for good gold paints, lets check this". Then I saw it in not-thumbnail size and my mind shattered into tiny bits at the realisation that it was NMM.

Now I'm really glad that I'll get their Fallen Frontiers DVD!

I'd also be down for a donation or two, but not right now and not as a subscription. Call it a peculiar Swabian mindset, but I'd rather chose to e g. donate/pay 15 bucks for a year of access each year than have a monthly charge of 1$ taken from my account. I really don't like that.

If that's an option already, please forgive me, I have a ton of exams to ace tomorrow and me not super smart about anything else right now

Looking for a Skaven Doomwheel banner to repair my Nurgle knights.

Cant recommend the team highly enough, they are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and take a pride in what they create.

They had a rough time of it earlier in the year and need all the help they can get.

Well worth a look at their academy series or the new patreon system.

Or support them and get access to their HD vimeo blogs and backer only tutorial videos.

Their range of busts and figures will hopefully expand too.

@Binabik, I think you can take 1-off stuff from their academy, no matter what I am sure they are glad for the support -

@Rick, I for one am wanting their paint rack system pretty badly, hopefully that goes on sale sometime too! You are right though, excellent busts and models from them too -

Hey guys!

This is Michael aka Zaphod Beeblebrox, the beard behind Painting Buddha

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you, especially to MajorTom11 for spreading the word - or as we prefer to say 'Share & Enjoy!'.

Painting Buddha is a 14-year-long dream of mine and I am investing everything I have with the goal to grow our community of miniature painters. As owner I take 0$ because I frankly don't care too much about money
Running Painting Buddha, having Ben Komets as a full time painter and flying in artists from all over the world does, however, require moneys - and with the Patreon campaign we hope to make everything as affordable as possible.

I personally always wanted to do 'everything for free' - and with the combination of YouTube/Patreon we have achieved just that. Whether you pay or not, our content is freely available on our channel.
Of course, if we didn't make any money, we'd soon be out of 'business'

So having said that, once again, I'd like to thank you all for your support! It is our pleasure to make (what we believe to be) the best miniature painting tutorials out there. And we have some cool plans for the immediate future. Stay tuned

Stay hoopy, SHARE & ENJOY

Michael

Good luck with this Michael! You have a great product and superior quality and design, so I really hope you guys stick around a good long time... I don't even hobby much at all anymore (more on the at all side past year or so) and I still watch the vids lol...

PS - let me know when those paint racks go on sale =D

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Just to make absolutely sure; if I set a monthly limit of say $15, I would be charged that amount on the 1st of the following month, yes? IE there is one monthly bill for whatever your accrued total is, rather than it charging you $3 here and $3 there whenever the creator presses the "Charge" button, correct?

A single regular charge I can do, but if it's going to be taking little dribs and drabs piecemeal I'll have to pass just in case it takes money out of my account when I have none(my bank has monstrous unauthorised overdraft fees, heh).

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I am not 100% sure but since there is a monthly cap you can sense, it would seem to make sense the draw would be monthly?

Would need to check the Patreon FAQ though to be sure -

I don't know the exact details but I think Patreon takes money monthly according to your constraints. It's supposed to be a kickstarter alternative for people (instead of projects). If they were to take money each time that would cost them way too much (x cent +%) of $1 ten times is much more in fees than (x cent +%) of $10 once (due to x cent part).

It says here that you will be charged on the first of every month:

They have a shop: http://www.paintingbuddha.com/pages/shlog-categories
So you would get some stuff in return for your donation. Or you could contact them http://www.paintingbuddha.com/pages/contact and ask if there are some other options that fit your needs.

I've supported a couple of webcomics via Patreon, cool to see a painting site using this model. I'll check them out when I get home, if they're as good as this thread is saying I'd be down to support for a couple of bucks per update.

One other thing worthy of note as out of the norm, each part of these 3 to 8 part tutorials they put out is on average 35-45 minutes long, sometimes longer... they aren't quickie 10 minute fast forward blink and you miss it vids, they really show the process in real-time which is awesome.

@Eggs happy to be of service bro, hope you are doing well!

Thanks! Been out of the painting scene for a really long time. Really looking forward to getting back into it as I've haven't stopped collecting for my BA army yet. Just need to find more time these days.

Love their series of DVDs, I have all their "Season 1" stuff, but am not that fussed about web-based stuff.

I live in a village with a BAD connection speed and would much rather have a DVD I can stick on when I need (or want) to.

I really hope they continue with their series on basing, and do more work like their banners and freehand set - a NMM and TMM set would be really appreciated, but I doubt I'll be able to get any web-based stuff for quite a while.

Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars."
