Interesting / funny thing happened yesterday in a friendly garage game...

I was shooting a nova charged riptide that scattered into my own ork warbikers. Would I have to declare that my own guys would jink just in case BEFORE I shot the riptide as danger close? What to do? HWYPI?

Your warbikes were not the target of the blast - therefore you can not jink because you bikes were never targeted. There is a huge thread covering this exact issue.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

Yeah, it's kind of an oddity. you'd think that any unit would be able to see a blast coming and be able to start jinking to avoid it, but as the rules are written, only the initial target of the blast may attempt to jink it.

So, in your example, the warbikers would have their 4+ armor save and a FNP if there's a painboy, and any intervening cover saves if available. But no jinking allowed.

If they were not the original target of the blast they would not be able to Jink, since Jink requires the unit to have been selected as a target.
