I will shortly be attending a Q month one OP and am thinking about builds. An issue I have is that cloaked mines have become a big thing in the local meta, sevral players have already brought the Korinar on Ebay just to get hold of the Klingon version of these. I expect at least two of the competitive players to show up with 2 sets to lay down in the middle of the table.

So I'm looking for builds that not only work well for the random nature of the Q event, but also mitigate the issue of the mines.

So what options are out there:

Gul Damar, -2 attack dice from mine fields, if you take a scan at the same time they no longer affect you at all. This has good synergy with other dominion cards such as breen aide, sensor array, long range tachyon scan and antiproton scan that can make use of that scan token. Using the officer exchange he could cost just 3 points as well.

Navigational deflector, feels a bit steep at 5 points, but if used on a ship with high defence dice should neutralise the mine threat pretty well.

Other than hoping the q cards delay the mines being laid what other options are there?

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

I thought this up for a friend that was worried about cloaked mines.

Officer exchange program Fed/Dominion

30 USS Voyager

06 Picard (Starter)

03 Sulu (TOS)

04 Tom Paris

03 Quark (Navagational Deflector)

26 USS Sutherland

04 Spock (Refit)

05 Dorsal Phaser Array (Ent E)

03 Will Riker (Hood)

05 Multi Adaptive Shields (Raven)

02 Systems Upgrade (Hood)

22 USS Enterprise

03 Demar (Collective Blind)

02 Breen Aid (Gor Portas)

02 Type 8 Phasers (Hood)

120 total

Both Voyager and Sutherland get to roll defense dice against mines and if Demar scans they are -3 dice against Enterprise. Voyager and Sutherland get 4 die 360 attacks and Enterprise has a 4 die 180. Voyager gets 5 defense with sulu Sutherland gets 3 as long as it has shields, which it has 5. You could trade out Sulu for Chekov to mitigate Aux tokens, but the extra dice are nice.  Fighters could be a problem, but with the bigger ships having 360 they could do a lot to stay out of arc. Damar might get more fire power out of a Keldon, but I like them ability of Enterprise to laugh off Aux tokens.

The down side to Damar for Q op 1 is he will probably be disabled for half the game.

I think I'm going to go for a build that concentrate's and raw firepower and hope I can alpha strike the enemy enough that the game is over before the mines do too much damage.

Also depending on the Q cards I might try the rush up technique to stop them placing the mines in the middle of the board.

Yeah Q1 is a little tough for mine defense. I found that bare bones ships and fighters work best for this one. An admiral is also a nice idea to fire before the other guy when the captains are down.
