I'm going to start a Fantasy army, so which game system should I go for?

Either 8th for the balance and better rules or Sigmar for Games Workshop's attention.

(Both systems have a bunch of players in my local meta, so either way I'll get games in.)

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

How could we answer that question for you?

What do you want from a game? WHFB has the vastly superior rules, AoS is going to get more attention in the next few months.

Considering the long run, it depends on what the big tournaments are going to decide on. WHFB will become less popular due to the lack of support by GW, AoS will become less popular due to its bad rules. Therefore, the big tournaments decide on who's going to survive. If you ask me, it boils down to either WHFB or KoW becoming the Fantasy go-to tournament game and AoS will be a side-game to get less experienced players into a tournament before they get to play with the big boys.

Buy the army you like, base them on square bases, and play both? Just keep in mind that if you're going to play WFB you need to buy like $600 worth of models that you won't feasibly be able to use in AoS.

Although, really, since models past the first couple ranks are wound counters, you can probably construct some great unit fillers for most of your WFB units, so you should do that instead of buying all those models imo.

So yeah, you can freely play both, it's up to you what you'd like to play. ;D

Ideally find people who can play you an intro of both games and who like both games and then decide after than. You'll get a much better experience playing someone who enjoys them and a better sense of the game.

People were leaving fantasy 8th for the same reasons some are leaving 40k in its current state. 8th had op builds and was not totally balanced.

As said earlier 8th will die out as it is a dead game that is no longer supported. That is fact. Many have already stopped playing already. Some are posting opinion without facts such as AOS will be dead soon. They are upset (and rightly so) that their game was killed and changed.

The fact is AOS will be around for many years and will be supported by tourneys and stores. The naysayers say it will die, but recent GW financial reports showed they are still healthy and it looks like GW is fully backing AOS (look at that statue by their office... why did they replace the marine??). GW has been around for decades.

AOS is fun, fast, and better for collectors and modelers like me. If the rules are as bad as some say and they actually lose money I'm sure they will make a second edition... at least the rules are free! From what I've seen it's experience and education. It was off to a slow start but AOS is picking up dream around here and has pulled quite a few 40k players anf new players... it's kind of refreshing.

I'd base on square so you could play AOS, KOW, or 8th. You should be able to find some on to play one of those three games.

8E is simply not going to have support going forward. There will be no new rules, no new models, etc.

If events carry on with it, it might have some life yet, but if they don't (which seems the more likely scenario), then it's going to be largely entirely dead very shortly.

I'd suggest if you want to get into it, the choice should really be between Mantic's KoW and AoS. At that point the question should be if you want a relatively fantasy battle simulator or a sandbox framework to play with your model collection. That's not a question anyone can answer for anyone else.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

They are very different games. Do you want a skirmish game with little to no balance and a very "free for all" feel to it? Then go AoS. If you want a regimental combat game with more structure to it, look in to WHFB or something like KoW.

But if you have any interest in 8th edition (or earlier), base your models on square bases. You can play AoS with square bases, you can't as easily play 8th or earlier with round bases. Square bases will give you the most flexibility.

Just start playing 8th edition while playing AoS. If your opponent stops 'playing' the game, its a victory.
Really, it's not much different than the act-it-out rules found in AoS.

Age of Sigmar - It's sorta like a clogged toilet, where the muck crests over the rim and onto the floor. Somehow 'ground marines' were created from this...

Again as many psoters have said - what sort of game have you layed and what do you enjoy.

So far limied expereince but AOS is very free from, extremely quick to play and make armies - issues with sniping characters

IMO 8th Ed is very much about army lists - moving Chaff about - and getting the right charge/ magic off at the right moment to win the game in one turn.

I'd just get whatever army you want and build it for WHFB but, with AoS being what it is, you'll be able to play both systems. If you enjoy both equally, I'd perhaps try and concentrate on WHFB for now, since it's likely to have a shorter life-span but, even if it does fade away in your area, you can always switch over to KoW.
