I have always been curious about having a small Fantasy force but could never make the leap into Fantasy altogether for costs and other reasons. Now with AoS I feel that it is a system where if I wanted to throw some knights down and a general I would have a cool game. I've known that Bretonians have languished in competitiveness over the years so my question is with the new war scrolls and the AoS rules set , are older less competitive armies better in any way? Did the war scrolls update or change things for the older armies? I have never owned any Fantasy codex so I can't tell by looking at these war scrolls. Also if one were to try out a small force are people opposed to alternative models for their medieval style armies because there are a lot of great ones out there that are a tad cheaper. I'm liking the flexibility provided by this system to try out smaller armies to keep things fresh after years of working on 40k armies.

I'll tell you a secret, something they don't teach you in your temples. The gods envy us. They envy us because we are mortal, because every moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we are doomed. You will never be lovlier than you are now and we will never be here again.

If you look through the scrolls you can see each army was updated and has ok units, good units, and great units. An important thing about AOS is unit synergy. Most heroes have different important command effects. Wizards can buff your saves which is very important. Anything with a rend and a 3+ save is good.

The green knight looks awesome in AOS. I haven't looked at all their other units for synergy but you could run a mounted knight army that would be pretty good if played correctly (mobility is awesome when playing with objectives).

I've played two games against Bretonnia and I must say that they seem really capable.

My friend was running a 50 wound army with king Louen Leoncoeur, fay enchantress and fewteen Grail Knights against me and I had really hard time cracking those knights with the Sigmarines. I won one game and lost one (in the second game he added a trebuchet that let him kill my Lord-Celestant in one turn with a little help of a single knight poking his remaining wound out with a sword).

Overall it seems very solid as an army. Maybe they don't have that ridiculous killing blow, but they hit hard and are tough as nails, especially with shield spell from enchantress!

I wonder how viable would be a cavalry-based army of the Empire with Demigryph Knights doing the heavy lifting.

I always wanted a griffon-themed Empire army and now I can have one.

Edit: wheee, 500th post! \o/
