Hey all, I picked up the Operation Icestorm starter game and have since added a few models to my fledgling collection. My question is how do I make a cohesive force out of my collection. I am confused about what I can add to a list. I found Infinity's website that helps with list building and everything seems to be broken off into subfactions and it appears that you can only add members of that subfaction to your army list. This means I can't even add the father knight to the rest of the forces it comes with. Is this the case? Or is it pretty much add what you want to add as long as it is the same primary faction or a mercenary? Also what are the limits for mercenaries? I have Father Szorfas and Musashi Miyamoto, can I use them for Nomad and Pan-O factions or are there restrictions. I love the game, it's a lot of fun but I am confused on list building. Any help or being pointed in the right direction would be great thanks.

There is overall faction list and there are sectionals (the sub faction) in the army builder (Army 5) just pick the list with the faction name not a sectional name. Look at AVA on unit profile, that is the number of that unit you can have. Every unit in a faction can be used by the overall faction, the sectional can only use the units themed for that sectional but normal the units the sectional can take have a higher AVA.

You can also download the unit PDF file the AVA in the profile are for the overall fac ion wi h sectional list in the back so h sectional AVA.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

As Noir said, it soounds like you picked a sectorial. If you couldn't add the Father Knight, you probably clicked on Neoterra or Shock Army of Aconticimento. In the army builder, when you click on Pan Oceania, 4 options drop down. The first is the generic army list, which I'd recommend with the Icestorm contents. The others are 'sectorials', or themed army lists. These entirely remove a lot of troops, greatly increase how many of others you can take, and enable 'linked' teams, sort of like squads.

For army composition in a vanilla list, anything goes, really. As long as you stay within points, SWC and AVA restrictions, you can add whatever you want. There's no force organisation chart, no minimum 'troops' or any of that. The only requirement if you need a Leuitenant, which can be any of the units in your list with a Leuitenant profile. You could go for a Fusilier grunt that sits safe in your deployment zone all the way up to a super aggressive Joan of Arc that gets in your opponents face. After your Leuitenant, just stay within the points, SWC and AVA restrictions.

Points are points. Pretty basic. SWC, or support weapon cost, is a secondary point system to stop you takeing everyone with a heavy machine gun. You get 1 SWC per 50 normal points in the game. So a 150pt game lets you also spend 3 SWC, and a full 300pt game lets you spend 6 SWC.

AVA, or Availability, is how many profiles of a unit you can take. Fusiliers are AVA Total in a generic army, so you can take as many as you want. Father Knights are AVA 2, so you can take any 2 profiles.

Thanks for the help, I believe that has me sorted out for the most part. I am still curious as to how mercenaries work, is there a limit?

Mercenaries are a different beast. Their is the Warcor type who can join any army except CA and Tohaa, Bounty Hunters type who can join any army listed in the notes under their unit profile, and then there is the rest who can only join the Sectionals they are on the list of like Avicenna in Bukunin a Nomad sectional. In each case the AVA is their limit like all units. There is also the current ITS model who can join any non-sectional army. So you will need to check each merc for who the can join.
