I am on a budget and I love to do conversions and such I decided to make a Wyvern and a Hydra out of Chimeras for my budding Guard Army. They are still a little rough but I need some feed back. How successful do you think they are and any suggestions to improve them?

The mortar looks good, nice heavy machinery aesthetic.

I think the AA gun could do with another hydraulic or something under the gunner, it looks a bit unbalanced to me.

Otherwise great, get some pictures up when they're painted.

I agree with this... As is, the moment he fires those guns, he's on his back.

Otherwise, looks the business.

I think the AA gun needs some kind of turret mount so it can rotate. Not sure if the gun is classified as a turret, but it would make sense to me.

Maybe if you took the comm relay/ quad gun turret base from the ADL kit and attached it to the floor of the tank and mounted the gun on that?

I put the AA gun on a swivel from the Chimera Turret and a knights elbow. I also added some armor plates to both of them.

They look almost ready to be painted, although I still think that the Hydra's turret base could use some wires, a control panel, and/or a ladder. Also, from where would the autocannons be fed ammunition? I would slap on a few more AC ammo drums or some belts snaking out of some space in the hull.

The turret is a big step up, but I'd do something with those bottle caps, as they look very much like bottle caps, lol.

I will see if I can ebay some ammo drums for the auto-cannon, I also need more rounds for the mortar and some for my previously made Basilisk. I'll probably see if I can put in a bits order on payday. For now, I have done what I can about the bottle caps and I have begun painting. I'll post pictures when I get done painting. Might be a day or two.

I have decided to improve the Wyvern's gun, so I dug around in the bits box found the arm bits to a knight* so I made this:







I have also made a second like this so I will have a squad of two.

*A friend made some khorn knights using the legs of the imperial knight and gave me the tops of them.

The Hydra looks AMAZING. NICE!

As for the Wyvern I really liked the first one as it reminds me of the Griffon model from FW. The second one makes it look like its rocket launchers rather than mortars. Also the rocket barrels are just white.

Thanks, I like the Hydra too, that is part of the reason I wanted to revisit the Wyvern launcher. I felt the Hydra was "Bam! Wow!" and the Wyvern was "Meh."

Oh, the new Wyvern launcher is not painted yet.

True, it does have a bit of a rocket thing going on. But considering the official one has a bit of a cannon thing going on who knows.
