Subject: 1 Alpha Legion planet vs 1 Imperial World - Showdown!

1 Alpha Legion Marine ends up on a peaceful Imperial World, in an average sector (not Cadia or the "I have 1000 000 Inquisitors" Calixis Sector). What happens to him?
I presume he'll just go into hiding at first, but his long-term objective will be to take control of the entire world. How long will it take? Can he do it?
Hard Mode: He's not a sorcerer, not a terminator, not a Warpsmith. He's just a standard operative with Tac marine gear.

depends on what kind of a world you are talking about, can you specify? is it a hive world, a feudal world, a death world? you have to specify a bit more.

I mean an Imperial World - as in, something balanced (like today but with Imperial tech). Those exist right?
If I'm wrong and they don't, I suppose it'll have to be a Hive World.

I think the classification you're looking for is a "Civilized World" which is much more balanced in it's land use as well as more self sufficient.
As for him taking it over? He totally could. People look at Space Marines as near god level beings and as Alpha legion he'd be very suited to the manipulation required to slowly move the populations allegiance to himself. As for time, I'm not sure. It would depend on how cautious he is and what events are transpiring in the surrounding areas.

Give him a week to learn about and analyze the current political structures of the planet. Give him a few days (assuming there's lots of fast intercontinental travel available) to make initial contact with his future puppet ruler(s). Give him a couple months of carefully chosen political maneuvers and assassinations to get get his puppet to the top of the food chain (less if his puppet is already near the top).
Under ideal conditions, I can see him being the unseen weapon of a newly appointed planetary ruler pretty quickly. Then it's just a matter of cementing his position by manipulating/executing the ruler(s) until he's found a comfortably stable puppet.
Or, if the Legion sent him here to stir up trouble rather than obtain shadow control, I see him taking a bit more time to stir up resentment and discontent among whichever social group has it worst on the planet, then a few more months launching initial strikes to build up a martial reputation for his specially trained private army, then a few months to a few years (depending on the Imperial presence on the world) making a few critical strikes against the powers that be while also building up the forces of a few select rebel warlords. From there, he should be able to just watch it all burn. If this is just a standard alpha legionairre, he probably isn't trained in daemon summoning rituals or anything like that. He can just sit back and maybe pluck a few opportunities from the vine as they ripen.
Of course, this is all assuming he has any reason to even mess with this world. He should theoretically be able to stow away aboard the next human vessel to reach orbit without too much difficulty and then get to a rendezvous point from there.

ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
