Subject: Orks - Maximising Dreds

Hey guys,
I could use a little clarity;
I want to maximise an army with dreds, but with the dred mob and new codex I am not 100% on the interaction.
Questions;
The dred mob uses the standard FOC, allows dreds as troops. But does it also allow dreds as Heavy Support?
I could bring a second CAD/second Dred Mob, can I use a mek as the HQ choice? Reading the rules; Meks can be a HQ choice (For each HQ choice in a Detachment (not including other Meks) you may include a single Mek chosen from this datasheet. These selections do not use up Force Organisation slots.) The not including other Meks makes it appear obvious that they can be a HQ choice; just that they do not unlock a second Mek. But can these be used as a HQ choice in a dred mob?
Can a dred mob only be made from units in IA8 or the PDF update? Aka no warbosses?
The supa turbo-thrust; "If the vehicle has the Heavy type it loses it, and if it did not have the Heavy type it gains the Jink special rule. On any turn in which the vehicle does not move Flat Out, it may choose to activate the Supa Turbo-thrusta in the Shooting phase. When the Supa Turbo-thrusta is activated, the controlling player must roll a D6." So a walker is a vehicle, if given this it gains jink, it also can make a 2d6 move in the shooting phase. Can it also run? Can it also charge that turn? RAW it appears so, it doesn't state anything about running, nor does it state anything about preventing charging.
The supa turbo-thrust; "If it contacts any enemy vehicles or units, it is considered to have either Rammed or Tank Shocked them as appropriate and ends its movement after resolving the attack." - So from this; if I also ended my shooting phase in B2B with a vehicle or enemy unit I would count as in combat, in the same way Zhandsnark does with his tank shock move.

There IS a new Dread Mob formation in the WAAAGH! Ghazghkull supplement, made for 7th edition and using everything in the current codex. I'd been painting it up for funzies before I got sidetracked with my Blood Angels...

Yeh but sadly its quite a large formation (1500+) well it comes in at 1500ish and you need a few hundred points to support it effectively. Plus i have this huge issue.... My meks... when ordered to build killakanz end up getting carried away... and im left with dreds I have 4-5 killakanz that got so large during kitbashing they are clearly dreds so I have 3/9 of the mandatory killakanz and 5/3 of the mandatory dreds.

Honestly I hate to say it but all my Dreads and Kanz are shelved for the duration of this codex. The SM Dred just got 4 attacks base. I'm sorry, no. Between Scaredy Grot Kanz, no Drop or Tellypotras, GorkaMorkanaughts being neither SH's nor Assault Vehicles, Dreds not in Squadrons, I can't see taking a fun list. It just wouldn't be fun. I think supplements really hurt 40K escpically when they all came out so close to the codex release. They could have added one per army every 6 months to keep things fresh and fight Codex Creep but they don't.
Unbound would be the only way I'd play a Dred list and people lose their minds when you mention the word.
The only Walker I use is Codex Stompa and the damage output on that thing is very low.

Hence why I am using the dred mob
The mega and meka dreds are still reasonably viable imo. Yeh not hugely competitve, but my meta isn't very hardcore. If I bring competitive lists I find I tend to have an easy game, so I like to try a variety of more fun stuff. For example, ive yet to come across, pod spam, grav spam, any cent stars etc... So luckily I get the chance to run slightly sub-par lists and still stand a chance.
I agree ork walkers still suck balls, but they so much fun to convert I just can't help want to run them

Honestly I can't give much input about the FW dred mob. I have used the codex dread mob quite a bit though. The morkanauta either instantly explode or never die. Plus it does allow enough walkers to be effective. Ya the space marine dread will probably beat our deff dread but we have enough walkers to put multiple walkers into the combat. Playing at 1850 you can bring some boyz in trukks and a warboss to deal with them instead of our walkers anyway.

My Armies:
Orks about 15000-16000 mostly unpainted but slowly being worked on
Militarum Tempestus about 2000 points just built
Inquisition about 2000 points unpainted
Officio Assassinorum 570 unpainted
I dont paint quickly |
