I just have a question concerning the Forgeworld Space Marine Raptors Chapter Tactics when used with Sternguard using combi-weapons.

The chapter tactics state that a model with a combi-weapon can use the bolter part of this weapon and change its firing profile from Rapid Fire to Heavy 1 and gain Rending. Since the Sternguard units have access to special ammunition, can i use this special ammunition and the alternate firing profile to gain special ammunition that is also Heavy 1 with Rending?

If your opponent was doing this, how would you feel about its 'legality'?

You cannot combine, as as you will have noticed, the special ammunition has its own complete porfile.

So i can only use the Heavy 1 with Rending if i just use 'standard ammunition'? Ah shame, still gives the Sternguard even more firing options though!

It's not a profile and it only says to replace Rapid Fire or Pistol with Heavy 1.
My take would be, yes, they can fire special ammunition with Rending. (wording: [...]may choose
to gain the Rending special rule [...])
It's not a complete weapon profile.

Sternguard don't have standard ammunition. The only have 4 special ammunitions, so either it works with them, or not at all, as the CT doesn't provide a full weapon profile.
