Hi guys!
So I travel a lot (often with friends and family) and would love to have a cool game to play while doing so. Here's what I'm looking for
Requirements:
- Must be quick to play (up to an hour)
- Must be a two-player game
- Must be a boardgame (since tables aren't always available, but it's cool if it can also be played as a tabletop, like Dust Tactics/Warfare)
- Must be low model count and a fairly compact container (thinking about five to ten models on either side)
- Must be historical (No weird war/west, sci-fi, fantasy, etc, but I will make exceptions if the game is super cool!)
- Must have minis
Preferences, but not necessities:
- Minis that can be painted
- WWII, Wild West, or modern warfare setting
As far as gameplay goes I'm thinking of something scenario-based. For example, for a WWII setting the scenario could be to infiltrate an enemy camp and rescue allies from imprisonment, or for a wild west game it could be to rob a bank, etc. If anybody's played Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars on the 3DS I'd love a game like that, but as a boardgame. Basically a game that plays out smaller operations rather than a full-blown tabletop wargame like Flames of War and such.
So, Dakka oracles, are there any games out there that meet my requirements, or am I looking for a unicorn?
By the way, I'll take suggestions for games that aren't travel-friendly but that otherwise meet the criteria as well!

Heroes of Normandie? Your requirements are kind of all over the place.

Wing Commander

Wings of War/Wings of Glory
One to two planes per person, play on a table or floor, can be played with the associated cards if you don't want to carry minis around, and either WWI or WWII air combat for your historical needs.

Space Hulk is pretty big.
I would recommend looking into a compact ruleset like De Bellis Antiquitatis and make matching armies using 2mm figures. Terrain is similarly small in size. It is entirely possible to make a "travelling chess set" kind of wargaming set up. There are 2mm troops available for a number of historical periods so you have a lot of choice.

Have you considered WWE SUPERSTAR SHOWDOWN?!!
Not historical, but it's a miniatures based card game. I'd link some images, but I'm on my phone ATM.
Can have a free-for-all, 2 on 2, or 3 on 3 matches two players(or 4, or 6). Tons of fun IMO.

Plus other games- miniature and cardboard both. |

Look up '40K travel set'. A umber of people have recreated 40K in Epic scale complete with a miniaturised 6x4 equivalent, scaled down range rulers and individually based Epic miniatures.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Memoir 44 is a pretty good WW2 game that's simple but has tactics and models. Not sure how tactical you want to get
