Subject: Looking for best scale to depicted larger battle

Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

Good day,
I am a 40k player and i'm use to the scale of minis they use (28mm I think). I was wondering if some other game out there depicted larger scale battle with more minitature than your average 40k game (and maybe smaller minis). I am interested in modern warfare, historical setting (world war I &2, roman, medieval, feodal japan) and Sci-fi setting. Also, I don't like playing ships (flying or not lol) or vehicule only battle; I prefer infantry war, or infantry + vehicule. Also, if possible, I prefer game that are actively supported or updated, and that are amongst the popular one in the communty (aka good chance of finding opponent).
Thank you in advance for your suggestion

Flames of war would one as it's pretty popular, though it has a similar battle size to 40k(think imperial guard vs imperial guard) though has a nicer ground scale due to smaller miniatures.
But theres also things like black powder and hail caesar plus the multitude of other historical games, best part is that you can have your armys work in more than one system and they can work with different scale minis.
If only epic was still supported.

I was in the same boat as you and in the end went for FoW as I love tanks.
The detail at 15mm is fantastic and having 150 dudes on the table all painted up looks epic.
I am just starting to paint 550 Russians for my brother in law which should look very impressive with soviat flags and all!
Game plays a bit like 40k as well so picked it up pretty fast.

To fight really large battles, consider 6mm or even 3mm or 2mm scale models.

But is there a good, popular and supported game out there that use 6mm minis?

Not so much 6mm, as it's 15mm, but check out Firestorm Planetfall, nice sci fi setting and good variety of races and units. (Infantry, apcs, tanks, giant shooty stompy walkers...)
But it all depends on what is played in your area at the end of the day...

PandaHero wrote:But is there a good, popular and supported game out there that use 6mm minis? Well, what is "supported?" If supported means in print, then Blitzkrieg Commander II, Cold War Commander and Future War Commander are all good systems for large 6mm battles for WWII/Moderns/Sci-Fi. And a good thing about 6mm or smaller scaled miniatures is that they're relatively cheap. So it's easy to make a couple of forces to play with, and then provide both when playing with someone else.
