While rummaging in my bitz box looking for parts to make objective markers, I found the 2007 Games Day Limited Edition Orc Warboss!
I forgot I had him ....

I decided he'd make an excellent Big Mek and started out fitting him for the job.

And with a little bit of paint ...

I had a friend (who doesn't play 40K) ask me if the back pack rig had it's own A.I.; to which I said "Sure.. it's Orks... why not.)
During construction I had had this kind of thought as well and I considered modeling a control gauntlet onto his arm... I still could do that.
What do you think? Control Gauntlet ... or ... just let it be?

That is a rad bigmek! His backpack reminds me of the borderlands loaders... a loader that he's strapped to his back like C3PO and Chewie. Maybe the face holds the brain of some awesome ancient bigmek that got wired into a dred that blew up... or something.

Very cool.

The Mek looks superb, man. You've got a way better grasp of painting yellow than I could ever manage. I try to make a point to provide some constructive criticism in every reply, so I guess that if I could change one thing it would be to add some black to the yellow plates, possibly in the form of caution stripes. You could really make the bright colors pop with a bit of darker shades to contrast.

Thanks! I'm glad you guys like him.

@TGG - yeah... the backpack could absolutely have it's own AI or maybe a hardwired previous Big Mek brain! I should write up some fluff..

@ youidiotkid - I appreciate the constructive criticism, I'm always open to new ideas. I agree, I had thought about adding some dags on his should plate or some sort of marking but .... truth be told I got lazy.

When I paint yellows:
1 - Averland Sunset (heavy dry brush over black undercoat)
2 - Agrax Eathshade (wash)
3 - Averland Sunset (thin the paint down... try to leave the recesses.

Don't worry if you think the paint seems too thin. The thinness will give you the interesting weathering type of look on larger areas.
If you don't like it you can add another layer of thin Averland Sunset.

4 - 50/50 Averland Sunset and Vellejo Flat Yellow.. thin. (acts as your high light.. brightest area).

I think the key to good yellow color is layers of paint to provide depth... and patience.
