Anyone know what the pattern for a bed is?

Oh, and before you open a save game back it up first. Updates can wind up corrupting saves sometimes.

What? How?

I ask nervously as I have a huge castle that suddenly might be so secure.

Changelist:

  • [*]Delay/repeater blocks
    [*]Beds
[*]Added three new half-size blocks (wooden slab, cobblestone slab, sandstone slab)
[*]Slimes have a higher spawn rate (?)
    [*]New Mojang logo splash screen
    [*]Graphics settings screen
    [*]New textures (?)
[*]Ability to toggle between classic lighting and "smooth" lighting
[*]Worlds now use a generic McRegion chunk save format, with built-in auto conversion
[*]While starting a new world, players can choose their own name and seed to generate the world
    [*]More than 5 Worlds possible
[*]Scrollbars in both the texture pack list, and in the map selection screen
[*]Added whitelisting to the server. To use, enter “whitelist <cmd>” where cmd is “on”, “off”, “add <player>”, “remove <player>”, “list” or “reload”
    [*]F1 now toggles HUD.
    [*]F3 can now be toggled.
[*]When F3 is pressed, mobs display a number over their head. This number is referred to as the "entity id" and can be seen in the console when players connect to a server.
    [*]F8 toggles mouse smoothing
[*]In 3rd person mode, character can be visibly seen to bob side to side when you walk (only when View Bobbing is enabled).
[*]Sandstone is now found at the bottom of naturally generated sand.
[*]All pressure plates now require two of its materials, instead of 3. The new stone slabs are now created by using 3 of the materials (see specific block pages for further information)
    [*]Mine time for Sandstone decreased.
[*]Redstone dust will get darker the farther away it is from a source of power.
[*]New painting added of a flaming skull.
[*]Some blocks of ice have curved edges.(Needs clarification.)
[*]Blocks break slower while in air. (Needs clarification.)
[*]Less passive Mobs when on harder modes (?)
    [*]Deleting world confirmation changed slightly.
[*]Smaller sheep and pigs? (Unconfirmed, sheep and pig dimensions are the same as 1.2.)

  • Bugfixes:
[*]When breaking double slabs (one slab placed on another) it will drop two slabs instead of one.
[*]Wood and logs don't burn forever anymore.
[*]F1 in 3rd person mode no longer flips view.
[*]Checkerboard sand border chunk generation fixed?

  • New Bugs:
[*]Some users reporting worlds getting deleted (confirm?). [*]Deletion may be caused by use of mods from 1.2 that have not updated.
[*]Levers can be placed on the bottom of a block, as long as there is an open space, and a block horizontal to the open space. The lever will act as if placed on the horizontal block, but looks glitched.
[*]If someone uses their bed in SMP, other players may get disconnected. (Un-Recognisable Packet ID: 17)
[*]Wooden Slabs are best mined with pickaxe, not an axe.
[*]Zombies cannot hurt players unless the zombie is above them.
[*]Large chests may cause crashes when opening them (Unconfirmed: crashes may be caused by use of mods from 1.2 that have not updated).
[*]If debug screen is toggled on in a world and you save and quit to title screen, the graph stays on the screen (can get confirm?) (also is the new launcher, if that is any difference)
[*]Lighting bugs on portal and ice blocks with smooth lighting.

  • Also, don't ask me how to figure out this forum's list function. It's rather fubar.

Ugh, all my worlds were corrupted when I logged on to corpsesarefun's account to update my game (then logged off and went back on my account to try and open one of the worlds).

    Progress!

My walls are complete, so is my gatehouse and my drawbridge.

A few cosmetic details to fix like the lower portions of the walls still being fill dirt but I'll take care of that tonight. Mind you the walls are only structurally done. I still have to redo the anti-spider ledges and install the crenelations in smooth stone. I need to bust up the cobblestone floors in the towers and go back with wood. Just some general improvements to make everything look better before I get started on the keep.

Ohh, and proof of how thick my walls are:

Finally, just had this floating around, my tree farm pre-planting. It's not huge but it produces between 8 and 9 stacks of wood each harvest. 2300+ wood planks per harvest isn't bad.

Tried out the bed last night. While I like the piece of furniture skipping night just felt like cheating.

after seeing this thread i thought i would give it a try, i needed a break from World of Tanks anyway..

it took me 3 tries to find a world that i liked, my first 2 did not have much in the way of elevation plus my first shelters were vaporized by creepers. my 3rd world is doing nicely.

i found a nice hill to build on and as i was clearing out the floor i discovered charcoal which this entire hill seems to be full of it.

i have developed a new method of mining.. i call it speed mining.. it is really simple and easy to do. i just wack creepers untill i get them in a good spot and then i let them explode and i gather up all the materials.

one of the craters made by this method of mining has turned into a second room for my shelter.

now i have read this thread from start to finish and a few things on the wiki and i have a few questions.

    1. can you get water to flow in an elevated horizontal channel? (i want to make aquaducts for transportation)

    2. is there a real purpose to mine cart trains with storage boxes in them? it seems like you can hold a whole lot in your inventory. the only time i could see using them would be to transport materials from different base operations (farming/mining) for sorting at a storage location. that or if you want to build something new you just take your materials with.

    3. can you create a piggy farm? id like to have a stockpile of food available early.

Just remember that explosions do not always drop blocks. There's only like a one third chance of an explosion causing a destroyed block to drop, so you're missing out on a lot of blocks.

    1. Yes, a water source block can be placed anywhere. The water will run up to seven blocks from that source before petering out. You'll have to have the elevation drop to keep the water flowing.
    2. I don't have the links on me but I've seen some people do some wild things making minecraft powered mechanisms. Think a closet you can stand in front of, push a button, and have the minecart you want brought to you automatically. No huge store room to sort through, just hit a button and have what you want delivered.
    3. Sort of. Animals will spawn on grass if there is sufficient light. So you can create a "farm" by building fences around a patch of grass. The downside is that you have no control over what spawns. So you may get pigs, cows, sheep, or chickens. You can make a variation on the mob farm though that will just spawn tons of them and carefully funnel them to their doom dropping their goodies so you can collect them.

Melissa, thanks. Like I said before, "I didn't want a house or a fort, I wanted a fething castle."

Nice find, but redstone is getting to be a nuisance. I'm sure I'll use plenty when I start to build contraptions but I've already got over 1200 bits of dust and unless its right in my path I won't chase it down. The stuff has to rival coal for it's abundance.

It is incredibly abundant in bedrock (5) to twenty. I have three stacks myself, which is ludicrous as I just got down and started mining. Counted five up from the top layer of bedrock band started there, which is said to be generally the safest while most productive because lava is much rarer at level ten up (it spawns more regularly at zero to ten and rarer above that, though it still spawns).

well i guess my aquaduct system wont work because over long spans there would need to be lots of elevation change and i dont think a flow could go up elevation.

is it possible to make minecart networks in the regular game without using mods?

You don't exactly skip night per se, rather it just rewinds the time of day back to morning. Sleeping will have no effect on smelting etc. since time isn't passing, as opposed to if you had waited up all night.
