Then just use it to make a spawn point and never use it again? Dunno, doesn't feel like cheeting to me...
I accidentally caused a forest fire recently. And I am in a forest biome. I now am looking at the scarred remains of my biome :(

Aaaand the latest Catographer (Cartograph G) doesn't work on my system for some reason. It just gives me blank images and text files saying I have nothing but air blocks.

Cartographer is broken until the next release I think.
Every time I stop playing for a bit to get more productive stuff done, this thread drags me back into it so poo to you all.
Attached are my latest works. Non-wargaming images are not allowed as attachments on dakka, so I am breaking the rules, but since I am the one that has to clean it up anyway I'll let myself for now
Thats a nice pyramid you have there Lego. I tried to build on but I felthed it up somehow. Oh wait now i Remember it was multiple Creeper ambushes that fethed it all up

Maybe dakka SMP at some point, we have an 8 core, 8GB RAM machine used for backups that could easily cope, but admining it would be annoying and most importantly, the lag is crappy on SMP still so not worth setting up yet. The server is in germany too so only east coast might have tolerable lag.
Check out our new, fully plastic tabletop wargame - Maelstrom's Edge, made by Dakka!
I'd say he jumped into the water but then i remember how big that ship is!

There'll be two .exe program files in the download - don't use the one with the Cartographer thumbnail. Doesn't work with the new patch. There should be another .exe with a bunch of dropdown menus in the UI. Run that one, as it's the version for the new patch.

As I said above, which program file from the download are you using? There're two applications for it in the download - one with the Cartographer thumbnail (doesn't work with the Tuesday patch) and one with a generic application emblem. Use that one, it should bring up a UI with dropdown menus instead of the checkbox/slider vanilla Cartographer UI.
Also, try clicking "hide until finished" or whatever it says when the generator text page shows up. Should work then. I just DL'ed it last night and haven't had any problems.

You kids need to learn the difference between a -good- game, and a -pretty- game.
Call of Duty series are -pretty- games whereas the original DOOM games are -good- games, for example.

Got Cartograph G to work with the help of one of the minecraft forumgoers.
The tower goes to the bottom and top, but I kinda skimped about halfway from the surface to the sky then made a top room. So I'm calling it The Spaceport now, as it looks like something could land on that.I should use fences to create support beams.

So what do you do? Build stuff, aand run away from pixel monsters, am I right? How do you escape them? I mean, surely if they attack you at the first night or what have you, you won't really have any defences, or anything prepared. How will you survive?!
To survive the first night, you need to build a shelter and some torches.
Generally speaking:
Chop down one block of wood. Use block to make four wooden plank blocks. Use four plank blocks to create a crafting table. chop down more wooden blocks, turn them into plank blocks. Use some to make sticks, use sticks and more planks in the crafting table in the right shape to make wooden pickaxe. Use pickaxe to harvest stone, use the harvested cobblestone to in the crafting table to make a furnace. Put wood (tree wood, not planks) on top, and a plank on the bottom to create charcoal. Use charcoal and sticks to create torches. Now, build yourself a cave and close it up from the outside (if you have enough wooden planks left, build a door to make an easy exit), and you are safe for the first night. If you get lucky, you'll find coal and you won't have to make charcoal, as the two are interchangeable in their uses despite being two different items. Use the torches to light your shelter so monsters don't spawn inside of it.
It shouldn't take that long once you get the hang of it.

There's an actual boat for this game, which is somewhat small.
In the crafting table, you put in the following:
E=Empty, P=Wooden Plank
EEE
PEP
PPP
And it gives you the boat, which is quite fast on water. But what they're building are massive projects using a lot of different materials. Here's another example of mega-objects:

But they don't "work" right? Like the farm grows stuff but that airplane don't fly right?
