Things can be made to float in the air, though they won't properly "fly" because blocks aren't mobile aside from liquids.

There is electricity in the game however.

The sure do, you can make tree farms, wheat farms, sugar farms.

Each plant grows differently. Grass grows if there's a grass block nearby and enough light is hitting a grassless dirt block. Wheat grows if it is on a tilled dirt block and has enough light, and grows faster if the tilled dirt block has water adjacent to it. Sugar Cane must be on an untilled dirt or grass block next to water. Cacti must be on sand, and not next to another block. Trees must have enough space above them to grow from sapling to tree, and enough light. None of these necessarily need sunlight, just a certain level of light.

So I watched this, to try and make Minecraft make sense.

Suprisingly, it didn't actually help. It just made me paranoid of deep holes and mysterious noises.

It's a sandbox worldbuilder. Monsters are there for certain raw supplies, through your first concern will be building a shelter, whether it's a small one room cottage or a huge 100+ room castle. You can, of course, turn monsters off in the game options and just use the Invedit program to stock your inventory with building materials and go crazy building huge megastructures/cities like the examples I gave above, and then there's online play, though MP still has a lot of bugs that need ironing out. Most notably the bad lag on most MP servers and the fact that each player on a server is very resource consuming, taking up about 100MB each. Once they sort out those issues though, the Multiplayer should be pretty solid.

All in all, Minecraft is essentially a giant endless bin full of Lego

At the moment, sugar cane has two uses. To make sugar, used in making cakes (a healing item), and to make paper, used for making books, used for making bookcases.

Yea, for what it's worth buy the full version. Free version doesn't get any of the free content updates, most of the mods/utilities made for it aren't supported anymore, and it just -does not- do Minecraft justice.

Couldn't you just, to escape the monsters at night, just dig an underground complex and wall the entrance off until morning?

It's a bit boring though, and it's hard to tell what time it is unless you have a watch (four gold ingots and one redstone dust) or a view of the sky.

This is true... The former is impossible on a first night and the latter would mean monsters could fall in.

That was actually how I made my first city. It ended up turning into a huge underground metropolis not unlike the Dwarven city from DA:O. I even had my own huge bridge over my own huge lava lake, with my own huge fortress in the middle of it.

So...is this free version to play got any monsters, or any...sheep and stuff? I've been hacking my way through the ground for the best part of an hour or so, and I have yet to meet any other critter?

The free version, IE Minecraft Classic, has almost nothing of the main game. You can place or destroy blocks, basically. No mobiles aside from the player, no day/night stuff, no growing plants, no health meter, etc.

Not sure on the Alpha version.

MC Classic is basically as bare bones as bare bones can be. If I were you, I would spend the $25.00 or whathaveyou on it and just play the Beta version. I didn't even bother with the trial. I just went ahead and bought it. Do. Not. Regret. At all. Probably the best $25.00 purchase of my 21 year life.

AH but different personalities, and different views, isn't it. I mean, I may play it once and get bored. I mean hell, it sounds insanely confusing what with the crops and the building itesm to make other items to make more items, and as much as it could potentially appeal, I don't think the demo really sold it. Nor have the videos I've watched.

It'd take a long stretch to call classic a demo. But if you weren't felling it from the vids, Then you weren't feeling it. YMMV i suppose.

Hey, has anyone noticed spawn issues with monsters post-update? I mean, mobs have been spawning in my room packed to the brim with torches, then, when I come back and unblock my door, it is full of creepers who love to blow a hole to the center of the earth.

Other Dreadnaughts should just go somewhere and be a toaster.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

I think the bed code has caused some weird problems. I know I've seen a lot more animals spawning inside of my home since then, but I haven't seen any actual hostiles do it.

THey spawned on sand and snow blocks (not snowed on blocks, but blocks made from four snowballs).
