Just wondering really- Toxicrene, drop pods, artillery, Maleceptor...they've been out a good few months now, so how are you finding them in game? Good? Bad? I ask cause I'm considering getting one of these for my brother...

The maleceptor has an awesome model, a great concept, but abysmal rules.

The tyranid drop pod is OP. The units that go inside are kinda meh. Carnafex with double devs - can wreck stuff.

From a rules perspective the Maleceptor is the worst unit available to any army. such a disappointment. Its just about as likely to take a wound from perils as it is to cause one. If it does manifest its power, it misses 1/2 of the time. It can only ever kill one model, because wounds don't spill over. The best success I've had with this is treating it like a stupidly expensive Zoey. Backfield Synapse, Warp charge bettery, and another roll for a power that might be useful.
The Toxicrine is OK, but significantly overcosted, and previously the main purpose was to take out Wraith Knights. Now that Wraith Knights need a 6 to wound on poison, and aren't killed by ID it is hard to justify it from a competitive sense.
The Mucolid is great. Love it.
The sporocyst is kinda a WTF unit. It basically doesn't work in the sort of missions that most of us play, and it is better or worse depending on how you rule it shoots (Like and MC, Like a Vehicle, 2 or 5 guns)
The tyrannocyte seems like it should be good, but Tyranids basically don't have much they can put in it that makes it worth the points. Now that ITC ruled it fires all 5 guns like an MC, a Dakkafex drop is more viable, but still pretty iffy. It either needs Drop Pod assault to come in on turn 1, or it needs a big points reduction.
The Nurothrope is OK, but it suffers from a very high degree of randomness, and the fact that every other army with psychic powers (except Orks) are better with them, and the change to Brotherhood of psychers from 6th to 7th. It is just really hard to justify spending so many points on a unit that is basically worthless against a number of matchups. Also, having to roll to hit with it's special power is super annoying.

Out of your list I like the pod, and am strangly fond of Toxicrene...so I reccomend one of those...(I'd give him a pod) Bonus the Pod can make a Mucolid with a little kit bashing.

Uh... this is confusing me. These models don't fill the same role. Did you mean he stopped using venomthropes after learning about the toxicrene? Or stopped using zoanthropes after learning about malenthropes?

I believe he's refering to the Forgeworld Malanthrope which is essentially a buffed venomthrope. (not the Malaceptor) Cost almost twice as much as two venoms yet you get a little more staying power.

The Malanthrope is sooo much better than a venomthrope, it's silly-bad.
Like, what the actual heck were they thinking.
Shame they cost so much IRL. Might have to scratch-build one up.

Yep, I'm not confusing it with malaceptor at all. My friend even said Malaceptor is terribad.
