A heldrake comes in from the edge of it's own deployment edge. It flies in a straight line towards a unit of Ravenwing bikers (rerollable jink) with a space wolves HQ at the front of the pack from place where the heldrake will fire from.

1) The heldrake drops the torrent template so that it covers the wolf leader and let's say 5 ravenwing bikers. Can the wolf lord take all 6 wounds against his 2+ armor save (first target from firing unit) OR are the wounds allocated with 1 wound on lord and 5 towards unit?

2) What if the heldrake instead drops the template where it hits only the 5 raven wing bikers and not over the wolf lord at all. WOuld this change how wounds are allocated?

The template just tells you how many wounding hits are caused. It has no effect on the wound allocation process, which applies the wounding hits to the closest model first.

So if the Wolf Lord is the closest model, he will take all of the wounds (unless he chooses to pass them off with Look Out, Sir!) until he dies, and then the next nearest model will step up.

Yeah, in both cases the template is used only for generating the number of hits. Wound allocation must be performed against the closest model as usual, whether or not that model was under the template.

Just to clarify: When you say 'front of the pack' you do mean the Wolf Lord has joined the Ravenwings?

1. If he has joined the squad and is at the front he takes all the wounds until he dies or chooses to look out sir.
2. If he has joined the squad this is not allowed as you must get as many enemies under the template as possible.
