Hi guys

I am painting a small squad of salamander and a contemptor dreadnought, and the main color for the armor is moot green. I would like to know which paint you would use to highlight the armor parts of the figs : it is the first time I use such a "bright" color scheme and I don't know what to use.

Thanks !

Mixing the Moot Green with a bright yellow

First 2:1, then 1:1 then a straight yellow for edge tips/brightest points would be my go to.

GW tends to use Yriel Yellow for highlighting Moot Green on their Necron and Dark Eldar models.

It depends on the effect you want. Like Ghaz said, Yriel Yellow is a great color to provide some contrast and brightness, and is generally the GW route. It looks really good on small areas like lenses or even larger items like glowing blades.

However, if your whole model is predominantly green highlighted yellow, you may find it looks a little over-the-top and tron-ish.

In this case, you can always consider using a color like gauss blaster green (edge paint) as a highlight, and do the tips/points with either white scar or dorn yellow.

If you don't have access to the edge paints (most stores don't stock them), gauss blaster is kind of like sybarite green mixed with white.

You can highlight wit yellow then wash it down with a green wash to re tint it.

but it depends on what kinda green you are going for.

a Cooler green would take gauss blaster pretty well.

a warmer needs yellows.

Well, the fig is this one :

I would like to add some depth to the green, and I usually do it with heavy drybrush. I don't know if the gauss blaster green would be appropriate.

I personally dont like the drybrush techinque for space marine e things.

Personally prefer blending and glazing.

i think highlighting thin and sharp + adding more to corners can create more depth

it might just be your table light but yellow might be the way to go.

+ wash it green ether way will add dept into the darker areas and panel lines.

Loads of good suggestions already. Highlighting with pure yellow (or a mix of yellow/moot green) might be a bit vivid. Depends what you're going for.

My two cents is that you can get a decent highlight colour for basically any base by taking the base colour and mixing in some bleached bone (Ushabti bone. Vallejo bonewhite, whatever). Pure white looks unnatural but the more muted bone works a treat.

Thanks.

Gonna add a layer of coelia greenshade, then highlight with a mix of green and yellow.

Many thanks guys for your help !

@Desubot : yes, the crest is still in progress

There used to be a really bright green called Billous green, which is a shade or two brighter than Moot going towards luminous yellow/green territory, but not quite all the way there. (I've got a bottle of it from the early 90's that is still good)

Should be available from Coat D'Arms still under another name.

Vallejo also has a color called 'Livery Green' in their Game Color line that may work.
