Hello All,
Ive been demoing the game a lot and getting new people into the hobby! Strangley enough i only have one force Ad mech, but also have some bits and bobs for ultramarines as in 30 Tactical marines and 4 libbys.
What i need guys, is your advice on a good starter force for 2k, a good performer all rounder. Not something super competitive and this has been eating at me for a couple of days now. So what should i buy. I know i should choose as its my force but i keep getting stuck and would like the community to help me out here on what should my next purchase should be.
If you were new and introduced into a game, what would you like to play as from a space marine list. Im not looking for super comp, but same time not looking for weak sauce. Something that new players would enjoy and learn from.
Thanks

The best advice i could give you is to try out a mix of units, sort of a Combined Arms approach. Some units in Rhinos, Drop Pods, some bikes, some Tanks, maybe a flyer. Experiment and see what works well for you and how you enjoy playing.

For a fluffy, casual list, a battle/Demi company would be a good place to start. Then add on formations for flavour.

I’ll second the demi company. Where to go from there depends a lot on personal taste and a host of other issues.
3x10 man tac squads, in pods or rhinos, with both special and heavy weapons (MM/M, ML/F, HB/F, combis to match if points)
5 man assault squad (2xflamers, vet sarge
5 man dev squad (I like 4xLC here)
HQ (I like the chaplain with a JP to lead the assault squad)
This is roughly 1,000 points with a reasonable amount of gear. It plays very much like an UM army feels like it should.
If you have 4 librarians, adding them is probably a good plan. I’ve not used the conclave myself, but it looks strong.
You need other formations if you want the gladius bonus. The 1st and 10th formations are easy and fun. But if you want more tanks, or flyers, or whatever, you can run with those. Building a 2k list you should have the room to pick up what you want.
If you have points left over after buying your formations, you can go back and add more to the company. Pick up some dreads, use the command squad, etc.

Grav cannon centurions in a drop pod are incredibly effective scalpel units. Use this squad to take out your biggest threat turn 1

Full Company MSU with the Land Raider Formation? You still need the Captains/Chaplains as Libby's don't meet the Demi company HQ requirement
