Hello there
So recently I converted a Chosen Champion into a Dark Apostle and I was wondering what are they like to field?
Anyone have any knowledge they'd like to pass on for this 110 Point dude?
Thanks

They are a solid secondary HQ if you have the points and use large numbers of assault infantry. But, cultists can be made fearless in a Helcult formation with a Helbrute for basically the same cost, and cult troops tend to be better than vanilla chaos marines.

It's a good addition in a CSM squad meant to overwhelm enemy units. Like my own 15 strong unit with Mark of Khorne, an added CCW, Infiltrate (via warlord trait) and do on and so forth. But, it's not worth all those spare points. I can add an Icon of Vengeance or a cheap Lord for Fearless and Fabius Bile gives even more bonuses to a CSM squad.
It's a fluffy model to put in a Cultist blob or blobs, but again, not cost effective. The HQ slot would be better used with other models that grant Psyker levels or turn X into Troops or as Huron Blackheart that Intiltrates some units.
I pass on it every time for these reasons. It's not a bad unit, it's just not good enough and Chaos needs every best thing they can bring to the table.

If you're looking for a fluffy way to boost cultists then drop him in a blob of em. Not very competitive, but it's hilarious to do

He sounds good as a secondary seeing how I field an independent character and 30 cultists most games, I usually let cultists run blob without a HQ to soak up Tau shots (and damage XV88) before my terminators finish the job, so having them fearless and have them Nurgle'd is a good way to keep them in the fray even for 1 more round

I play eldar a lot and MoK cultists are surprisingly good. They get 4 attacks each on the charge and don't look like much of a threat so my opponent tends to ignore them. Cheap too.

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.
Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.
And he will hold the line.

I only use him with giant blobs of cultists w/ MoK.
It's fluffy and good for lols.... But not a competitive choice.

The Dark Apostle is one of the most useless options in the codex. He can't take a Bike, Steed, or Terminator armor. He doesn't do anything to buff the army.
I'd even take Lucius over a Dark Apostle, because he would at least unlock Noise Marines for a troop choice. That says something because Lucius is pretty garbage.

I don't agree at all bikes steeds and terminator armour? None of which are that great for the apostle. Plus being on a bike isn't everything most games my biker lord dies and aside from unlocking cult troops I'd sooner take the apostle.
Also imho Sorcerors are not that good

If you fight space marine chapters a lot he makes cultists that much better with his special abilities.

I've enjoyed putting a Slaaneshi Apostle in a Marked Chosen Squad, kitted for assault with Icon a couple of heavy CCWs and mounting them all in a Dreadclaw.
Not at all cost effective, but certainly fun!

The problem is that the Dark Apostle is too expensive. 110 points should be what it costs to field a decently upgraded Chaos Chaplain, not the base cost! I would say they should be around 80-90 points base. That would go a long way toward making them more useable.

The apostle is easily 30 points over costed. Has useful rules and stuff but costs too much
Same with the Warpsmith. So cool and useful but overcosted

The Warpsmith is at least able to unlock more of the good vehicles.
