Subject: Is the Stompa useful in game?

I recently got a Stompa for free in near-destroyed condition and I am looking to rebuild it. Now, beyond it's use as an Apocalypse model to pull off the shelf when someone wants to throw down 4k points, is the Stompa good in 2-3k normal games? I was struck by just how equivalent it was in melee to a wraithknight that costs almost 1/3 as much...

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Stompa's are very over costed compared to everything out there. Orks should be the cheaper of the armies, so its silly that the stompa cost almost 800 points and can be killed by something under half its price (even less).

2-3k its fine and can be fun. Just do all the basic things anyone needs to do to protect it from T1 Drop pod assault. I know it can get nuts if you spam out meks and constantly repair its 9 hp. EDIT oh excuse me 12 hp. or whatever number it has. cant remember

It does have transport capabilities, fire points for Lootas or whatever else you feel like putting inside it, and has 12 Hull Points that can easily be repaired by meks that are hard to kill while embarked inside. It also has pretty great ranged capabilities of it's own, as well as projects a fearless bubble for nearby orks (and leadership issues are the bane of Orks, right?). It's got a lot of positives going on...
Just do what another poster said and bubble wrap it with Grots to keep drop pod melta from taking it out turn 1 and you should be ok barring the rare "6" from a ranged D weapon.
Oh, and quit comparing things to the Wraithknight. It's stupidly undercosted to the point of driving people out of the hobby. Nothing, point for point, holds a candle to it. Just play with the models you like and make them work....
Oh yeah, and the Stompa is a super fun model to assemble and paint. Good luck with your reclamation project!

I've played many a double CAD 1850 list with the Stompa. Fearless is the best part by far. It does NOT die unless someone targets it with everything, or 20+ Tankbustas.
Castle-up with Grots all around. Throw in a lot of MSU Artillery and you'll always have your 3 objectives during Malestrom Missions.
As has been said, generally not worth the points. GorkaMorkanaughts should be Super-Heavies, then they'd be worth it, also should be assault vehicles.

It's a 12hp monster that moves fast, has lots of weapons, can use those weapons on different targets, fearless aura, transport capable of transporting more then one unit, a way to put in 13 meks one with a KFF/MFF and IWND so that it keeps regenerating, stomps, behemoth etc.. It has a lot going for it. It's cons are it's price and that oddly GW didn't make it an assault vehicle. I know I plan on buying one and most likely I'll surround it with units that move as fast as the Stompa does. 12" move, unlike other dreads this thing can usually make it across the table. Probably bikes and deffkoptas since both units would benefit greatly from the fearless while buggies, for example, wouldn't.
