hi dakka, I just had the crazy idea of repainting my dark eldar, as right now I am not happy with the standard that they are painted too.

these are probably very basic questions, but how should I go about stripping models? I have heard that simple green is good, but I have also heard that they changed their formula.

I have a scheme in mind, but to do this scheme, I need a light shade of bone as a base, what is a good colour for this, ideally it would be a similar shade to GW's ushabti bone, but as we all know, that paint is gak for basecoating.

additionally, what is a good method for painting a florescent green?

thanks!

What materials are the models made from?
Can you get them off the bases?

This helps advise with best stripping method.

plastic and resin.

no metal that I could think of.

I can get them off the bases, but that would mean that I have to buy entirely new bases for all my infantry.

how does stripping work against varnish, I have put a matt varnish over all my vehicles, so how does this interact?

Purple Power is what you want. It's sold at Walmarts in a generic label. Just look for the purple stuff. Safe for plastics and you don't need to worry about the formula change, which I believe was changed in the UK but not the US. It also works faster than simple green. It shouldn't be a problem with varnishes as they are just paint without pigment if you just used acrylic varnish.

Check out Vallejo's range for the paints. Flouros are notorious for not covering well, so you might need a few thin coats.

It depends on how long the paint has been on the plastic. My Imperial Fists stripped really quick with Simple Green, but they were only painted for maybe a year. Some of my other models that have been painted for 5+ years and I needed to step it up with Purple Power. I don't know about the GW rubber resin but FW resin strips really quick with Simple Green.

I would recommend soaking the models in Purple Power for a couple days then while running it under warm water, brush it with a soft tooth brush. Wear gloves while using Purple Power however, my hands are no strangers to chemicals and that stuff dried them out good.

ah, thank you.

the paint has been on the models for less than a year, so I assume that it shouldn't be a problem.

do the chemical stink up the house? If so, is it safe to leave the models outside while soaking?

I wouldn't huff it, but you should be fine with it near a cracked window. As far as safe to leave outside...I wouldn't as I have some nosey neighbor kids around that would steal my toys.

ok.

I can deal with the fumes, its just the smell, I HATE smells that stay in carpet, clothes, pillows, ect, hence why I don't cook bacon in my house.

I use Screaming Skull with Devlan Mud (or whatever the brown equivalent is now) wash, then drybrush Screaming Skull on. Works fine for quick bone.

I was thinking ushabti bone, agrax (current devlan mud) then 1st highlight ushabti again, then 2nd screaming skull.

I was morso asking because the main colour would be bone, and ushabti covers like complete gak for me.

I like rakarth flesh for bone color - I use it on my deathwing terminators. It comes out whiter than ushabti, though.

Couple things that helped me - shake the paint before using. At least a minute worth. Also thin it out, and do at least 2 coats
