can commissar yarrick be your warlord if he is your only HQ choice in your codex?

I believe he can since he has the senior officer special rule. I could be wrong though

Why would they give Commissar Yarrick a preset Warlord Trait if he couldn't be your Warlord?

Ghaz -

RAW, yarrick has a special rule called chain of command

Chain of command -

"A lord commissar may only be your warlord if you have no models with the senior officer special rule in your primary detachment"

he also happens to be a senior officer.

It's a blanket rule for all lord commissars however it's pretty obvious for yarrick it means no other models.

I guess you can always play the card of 'he's not strictly a lord commissar, he's Yarrick' if someone is being a stickler.

Alternatively take multiple detachments and have your CCSs in the secondary one. Not always ideal though.

Why ask the question if you knew the answer? Yes, Yarrick can be your Warlord. They wouldn't give him a preset Warlord Trait if he couldn't be your Warlord. You didn't ask if there were other situations which could keep him from being your Warlord (there is not, since as noted he has the Senior Officer rule). You also seem to be under the false belief that your Warlord must be an HQ choice in your army. That is not true. Barring any other rules, any character in your army can be your Warlord (e.g., a Sergeant in a Space Marine Devastator Squad could be your Warlord).

Ghaz the problem is despite having a warlord trait, he has two rules that in conjuction deny him permission to be your warlord.

That said, I belive the intent is that Yarrick can be your Warlord as long as he is the only model with Senior Officer.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Really?

These are the guys who gave a Warlord trait to a landspeeder in an edition where only characters could be Warlords...

As far as I can see, though. Yarrick is not listed as a Lord Commissar in his rules, so should be fine.

Barring any other rules, any character in your army can be your Warlord (e.g., a Sergeant in a Space Marine Devastator Squad could be your Warlord).

In this edition, any model in your army can potentially be your Warlord. It was last edition that it had to be a character.

Warlord must be any character (unless specified otherwise) unless you have no characters, then it may be any model. BRB p124

He's not a Lord Commissar, so no, Aura of Discipline does nothing.

You're probably supposed to ignore the part that refers to Lord Commissars there...

*sigh*
