Alright so my other list is yet to get a response, I'm assuming it's total crap though, so here goes my other idea. Tau, Farsight and ALL THE RIPTIDES.

---HQ---
1x Commander Farsight (165 points)
1x Honour-Shas'vre O'Vesa (305 points)

---Elites---
1x Stealth Team (231 points) with
4 w/ Burst Cannons
1 w/ Fusion Blaster + Target Lock
Shas'vre w/ Fusion Blaster, Homing Beacon, Markerlight/Target lock combo, Positional Relay

1x Riptide (320 points) with
Earth Caste Pilot Array, Ion Accelerator, Stimulant Injector, TL SMS, Velocity Tracker
+ 2 Missile Drones

1x Riptide (273 points) with
Advanced Targeting System, Counterfire Defence System, Heavy Burst Cannon, TL Plasma, Warscraper Drone

---Troops---
2x Crisis Team (144 points each)
all 3 with TL Plasma, Flamer

1x Crisis Team (168 points)
all 2 with Advanced Targeting System, 2 x MP

Viable or no? How much rage am I gonna get for fielding this?

I would assume no rage since you have many ineffeciencies. It's not the easiest to beat with 3 riptides but it's not super competitive either. Also riptide spam may work well in local games stores but at tournaments you will see tons of grav and less emphasis on riptides. And riptide spam is 5 tides in a list.

On to your list. First your crisis suits weapons are wrong. Get double of either plasma or fusion. Twin linked is worse than 2 x shots. Flamers are a poor option on crisis suits.

Where are you getting marker lights from? The one on the lonely stealth squad? That is a poor plan. Tetras are the way to get markers, followed by marker drones and a mark' O commander.

I don't remeber but I am pretty sure ovesa has a earth caste pilot array already so you cannot take another one on a another riptide.

I would say try again.

There's an exception for members of the 8, allowing me to cheese a second pilot array into there.

Rekit the crisis teams and stack on more markers then? That can be done.

You lose 1 missile drone on that riptide and you face a morale check... just sayin'

Not much dakka in this list. 320 points of dedicated anti air is a lot of points.

What do you think of this?

Empire CAD:

-Farsight
-Buff Commander (CCN, MSSS, Onager, Puretide,VRT)

-7 Crisis Bodyguards (4x dual MP w/ Target Lock, 3x dual FB)

-6 Firewarriors
-6 Firewarriors

-Riptide (HBC, EWO, Velocity)
-Riptide (Ion, Stim)
-Riptide (Ion, Stim)

-3xMissilesides (SMS)

-Imperial Bastion w 1xVoidShield and Icarus Lascannon

A hint. Early warning overrides. Everywhere. With the popularity of space marines currently and plenty of other deepstrike threats this is one of the best upgrades you could ever give a suit. Riptides, broadsides, and crisis suits all benefit immensely from them.

Why the rail sides? High yeild is the way to go there. Those fire warriors are a complete waste I have to be honest I don't like it. You aren't using some of the best units the tau have to offer. Particularly tetras and the firebase support cadre.

I was trying to stay with the 3 riptide theme...

I could change to missile-sides. without bating an eye. I prefer them anyway... in fact (poof) they're changed...

Never played the tetras... they seem like jinking ork trucks... sell me on them?

Sure, one crucial thing you are overlooking, homing beacon. Allows your suits to arrive right where you need them with either those double fusions or double plasmas. Even can help bring in your commander and his team should you choose to drop farsight, which I think you should as you aren't going for a bomb.

But back to why tetras are great. They have twinlinked double shot marker lights which are on a durable platform. Sure you can jink but you can also hide in ruins for a standing cover save. They are fast skimmers so super duper mobile. Last and most importantly they are only 35 points. This is cheap when compared with other marker sources that are also less durable.

Take pathfinders for example. They are t3 with only a 4+ save yet cost around 11 points per man(min squad 44). 4 wounds at t3 with only a 4+ armor save is not very durable vs 2hp and av10, potential 4+ jink saves. And still a single tetra is 9 points cheaper than a min squad of pathfinders.

Marker drones with a drone controller are your second best option. Still only 4+ save but now get t4. 14 points per model. But with the commander and drone controller now have bs 5. With the commander to tank wounds this can actually be very survivable, however it's pricy and tends to put all of your markers on one target where as multiple marker sources allows flexibility.

If you don't believe me check out some of the tau lists that make it to final tables at large "grand tournamnets"(the website "blood of kittens" is a good resource).

Or better yet use a pirahna to proxy them and run them in lists to see what they can do. Remember they now don't have to include disruption pods, so base cost is 35 points. This is critical.

Oh it should be noted I would take a commander(just stock not Farsight or any of the named ones) and roll for the warlord trait that allows you to deepstrike without scatter or rerolls to hit rolls of 1. Go for either of those and you can't go wrong. Also a warscraper drone is a pretty good call generally speaking. Gives you great midfeild control.

Having three riptides isn't necessarily bad either. It's also not the most competitive option. To the OP if you are wanting to play 3 tides that's perfectly fine. You may get some complaints but only from bad players. If you want to go more competitive I believe the firebase support cadre is the way to go as a baseline. I like to set my broadsides atop a skysheild for that sweet 4++ but have seen plenty of success with other fortifications.

Personally the idea was that you'd get the stealth team in deep and near a board edge, before storming down crisis teams AND bringing in the burst riptide from the board edge.

Thanks for the tips though all, knowing what I'm likely to be against in tournaments really does help.

Also remember to put enough on the table so a pod army can not wipe you on turn one as you would end a game turn with no models on the board and lose

That's a pretty weak list to me for 1750 compared to a min/maxed version of 3 tides; IMO you spent way too much on wargear, Min/maxing allows you to lose something to grav spam and not feel it as hard. Your weakest factor is that you have 0 markerlights too.

Starting with a base like this for 1304 points

HQ
Commander: XV84 suit, plasma x2, EWO:140

Elites
Riptide: IA, EWO : 190
Riptide: IA, EWO : 190

Troops
Crisis team x3: EWOx3, Plasma x6:174

Firebase Cadre: 610
Riptide: IA, EWO : 190
Broadsidex3: Missiles, EWO:210
Broadsidex3: Missiles, EWO:210

To me this is an extremely strong core.
with the current Meta anything with reserves is going to suffer. you have 6 missiles sides, 3 iontides, and the commnader and his units all with EWO. The commander's xv84 suit allows him to get a networked markerlight on a target before his unit takes interceptor shots as well.

now you've got a core list that can wipe out almost any drop podding or deep striking list. you don't have any anti-air with this but 48 twinlinked broadside missiles will hit something (plus tank hunters).

and you've only spent 1304 points.

from here you will likely want to add something like:

-Fusion suits (anti armor)
-Skyray or 2 (gives you markerlights, anti air, and anti bikes/jetbikes or wraithknights)
-Markerlight platforms (preferably tetras if you have them, if not good luck)

This list will get you a lot farther in any competitive match than having 300 point riptides who die the same to grav and D weapons as your 190 point riptides.

I aren't think that.
