In LIST 2 i traded the Longfangs for a runepriest to give my second squad of TWC a 2+ tank and possibly endurance to my thunder leader.

and the squad of power armoured wg for a melta-c.melta gh squad. Both my GH squads have obsec. I think i like the second list better. What do you think??

Charlotte, NC

I think your servitors are wasted points in your second list.

I also think 3 SS on the TWC is unnecessary.

An RP pairs beautifully with LF if you can muster the points.

Also for your HQ, why not take Harald? Has some sweet perks for the same price.

-) Iron priest on TWM is cheaper, still great in CC and has a 2+ save (and 2+ LoS).

-) greyhunters can shoot 4 s7 shots instead of 2 s8 shots, for which scattering pods may find you outside of that tiny 6" meltazone.

-) greyhunters have potential for CC against nonCC units, able to tie up and objSec and avoid return fire (stronger ap than assault w/ nonpowerweapon units). CC weapons and pistols equivalent to rapid firing, and also augment thecounterattack nicely. Their ability to put a fist into something in the squad makes you win combat.

-) SS wolves isn't as awesome w/o a CC weapon too go with. Wolf Claws provide S6, AP3 and shred (turn SM into cream corn)

-) perhaps go with the Wolf Guard formation? You're already using both WG and terminators, and since you're neglecting the 5th man heavy weapon option, why not throw the runepriest in terminator armor instead and and let him give your squad stronger CC viability (considering rhe formation means you land with turn2 charge potential). Also, it'd provide you with nice reliable firepower via twinlinked fire for both units. As well, you'll be able to witchfire your runepriest against different units than the terminators, which wont compromise their shooting or assault targets.

20 combiplasma shots twinlinked will melt pretty much any target.

-) servitors are effectively a waste of 15% of your armies potential. Imagine coming into a game like final fantasy with 15% debuff to start, you'll feel the difference.

Be sure you have something that'll keep massed fire from harrowing you TWC as their hard counter is handfuls of armour saves...

There's really no earthly reason to take Servitors, unless they're supporting an Iron Priest. I'm not entirely sure what you intend to do with him, but I'm pretty sure some other unit would do it better or more-reliably.

In your first list, you have a Pod of 10 GHs with 2 meltas and a combi-melta. Save 20 points by dropping the combi and not upgrading the one model to WGBL.

An SS for every TWC is a waste of points... between physical placement of models and being able to Look Out, Sir! the Pack Leader, it's not really cost-effective to take more than 2 SSs for 4 TWC. That saves you 60 points.

On the Long Fangs - 2 Missile Launchers and 2 Lascannons are going to be almost as powerful if you need to focus the whole group on one target, but you can split fire, so 2 ML/2LC are even more effective if you want to fire on multiple targets, and you'll save 10 points.

A Krakenbone Sword lets you re-roll one failed to hit, and Felclaw's Teeth re-rolls all failed to hits... Either keep Felclaw's Teeth and save 30 points by using a standard Frost Sword, or save 15 points by ditching Fellclaw's Teeth. Or consider using Harald for the same point value, also giving his unit Furious Charge (and the other TWC unit, too, if they're close enough), having an extra wound, better Ld, and being immune to Pyromancy and flamers (though his armor save would go from 2+ to 3+, but, again, LOS).

List two also has everything but the TWC (and Rune Priest) coming in by Drop Pod... which means that, if you go second, your opponent has an entire turn to fire everything s/he has at your TWC. Potentially deadly. I'd go with list one, save the points I mentioned, add an ML2 Rune Priest on foot with the Long Fangs (use Divination). Give melta bombs to the TWC unit without the WGBL/Harald. Being heavy on Wolf Guard and TWC, though, you get the nice +1WS to a lot of models from being Company of the Great Wolf, as well as Preferred Enemy in Challenges. Good choice. Though if you shave off some points on the Wolf Guard and Wolf Guard Terminator weapons and drop the Terminator Drop Pod, you could probably save enough points to bump the Wolf Guard unit to 10 and have the Wolf Guard Thunderstrike formation.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I goofed. Making a Thunderstrike Formation would end up making those two units into a separate Detachment, and, without 2 Elite slots filled, the rest would no longer qualify as CotGW. Forget all about that part.

There is one servitor as a COMPULSORY) elite choice for company of the great wlf detachment.
Servitor + 10GH (2 melta, combi melta, pod instead of 7xWG (6xcombi melta, POD) if i loose the wg i still need an elite choice other than terminators.

Got it. I think the other list is the stronger one anyway, though...
