I'm interested in getting into Kings of War from WHFB. I'm envisioning a foresty army built around packs of animals and stuff like that. Would that be the herd or forces of nature? In addition, they both have the pathfinder rules, so is there any big difference in how they play?

thanks!

Packs of animals etc?

Nature is more like it. Nature has a host of different stuff that feels like you have a coalition of forest creature defenders rallying to take on enemies who try pass through.

HOWEVER the herd feels like an army of animals too... but a very different one. Rather than a coalition of various creatures, the herd feels like you have generic beast people with different roles supported by various beasts.

I guess Herd feels more like an Organized force while forces of Nature feels like the forest has awoken to take down the enemy.

I have played the herd once and I felt like they are a light and fast hitting force. They all have Thunderous charge which was helpful when in the open and their mage is very powerful. When I played it, it seemed like my list was made to have my base troops supported whenever possible by the bigger guys in my list.

My advice, cut out some paper bases and play test them. But thematically I think you are after forces of nature.

Agreed, Nature sounds more like what you are looking for.

But you may want to have a small force of Herd as allies as well. (A friend is thinking about a Nature/Herd/Elf army... which seems a bit thin to me, but she likes the idea of an army that the elves have called from the forest.)

I keep circling around Herd, while I might take a small Nature force... Herd looks like what I want. (Okay, so I want Neutral aligned Werewolves....)

The Auld Grump - werewolves and centaurs, living in harmony... just like nature intended?

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

You read my mind! The next additions for my Herd army have recently arrived.
