Hi all,

I am currently working on my guard army and their background, part of which involves them using a lot of plasma weaponry. I was pursuing the forge world website the other day when I happened upon the stormblade which seems to be the biggest plasma weapon you can get that isn't stuck on a titan.

I have been toying with the idea of getting one as a centre piece for my plasma living guard ever since and I wanted to get Dakka's opinion(s) on whether it is worth it both from a money point of view and points-wise.

Thoughts?

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Not the best Super Heavy but certainly not the worse. You can have 2x S8 Ap2 7" Blasts or 1x S10 Ap2 10" Blast. The Stormsword or Shadowsword would do the job better but that's not to say the Stormblade is a bad deal.

Do you think it would be worth giving it the sponsons? If so, what weapons would be good? Is it worth giving it the +1 BS?

The thing with the +1 BS is that you really want it for the sponson cannons - IE the Lascannons and for the secondary weapons. However you cannot have the +1 BS AND the Lascannons. It all comes down to taste. If you like the idea of putting out lots of BS 4 TW dakka as well as one/two pieplates of death then go for it. If AT is more your thing then take the lascannons.

How about adding two pairs of sponsons? One pair at the back with heavy flamers (for close protection) and +1 BS thingies and one pair at the front with lascannons and heavy bolters?

The way the rules are worded you technically have to replace both pairs of Lascannons

I've checked on battlescribe, you can choose to keep both pairs of Lascannons or replace one pair of the lascannons for the +1BS sponsons.
It's the better way to do it, you get to keep one pair of Lascannons and all your weapons are now BS4.

The rules I have for it, which I downloaded from the forge world website, says you have to replace two of the lascannons, not all of them.
