Ill be trying to run the war convocation with a wraith host and some windriders and dire avengers.
So i get the upgrade to str 9 gun for free but not sure whether the str 9 gun for 55 points is better than the anti horde potential of the dagoon... any thoughts or preferences

I use two dragoons in my list with the pistol upgrades (since reroll charge and +1 A is nice) but if money is an issue just go Ironstrider.

That is actually a tough question. IMO it comes down to whether you take a unit of 2+ or a single model. Single model the strider is better as the dragoon will not have weight of attacks to make the 1-2 charges it gets matter. In a unit of 2+ the dragoons can cause a huge mess and with the 5+ base cover + shrouded and possibly stealth combined with also providing cover to the imperial knight behind them the dragoons can be amazing.
