MY biggest gripe with the plastic models from this wyrd are some of the models are really flat (like on the cloaks) and really lacking depth to details... especially when compared to other models i am collecting right now from other comapnys ( corvus belli'sinfinity) i feel like my usual method of using washes to bring out the details is not going to work too well when painting this stuff....

Which sets? I feel like a lot of the earliest ones suffer from that, but think that the later ones take paint really well (they're really easy for me to get a solid paint job on)

It's funny, I've noticed the opposite. Malifaux sets always have nicely defined details, but since CB went to CAD design, their details have become softer. Hassassin Barid and Jannisary HMG have been the most severe, with some detail nearly obscured after a thin primer application. I'm painting a couple of older models right now, a Ragik Hacker and Lasiq sniper, and the details are super sharp.

I'd love to know which minis aren't of a decent quality, as this is literally the first I've ever seen someone say negative.

Personally, I wouldn't say anything wyrd's put out in plastic is bad, but they've definitely learned over the years.

Ten thunders, having the vast majority of their early plastics, should be the area you might want to pay more attention to.

Even with 10 Thunders, I think the Yan Lo and Misaki boxes are both great, Jakob Lynch's box is mostly good (aside from Hungering Darkness, which is their ugliest ever plastic model), and I haven't got around to painting McCabe or Mei Fang yet.

Yeah, I'd agree with the two hits, but Lynch and Mei's crews both suffer from some static poses (lynch, kang, rail workers) and a few pinheads (rail workers, depleted).

But I think the Hungering Darkness can look pretty creepy- it just takes mree work- a couple versions I've done

I had a lot of fun painting my Hungering Darkness. I used 2 shades of purple, red for it's eyes, and black wash. Easy peasy.

Part of the reason why I love Malifaux is. in fact, the detail they put into models. ME2 has shown a great change from the previous editions, and I'm looking very forward to what the next Wave has install for us.

i was disappointed for the opposite reason to the OP...
i went to get the Ortegas box, and was put off by how chunky the trim on the chaps looked...
not to mention what a let down look of the plastic Perdita was...
original metal Perdita is by far my favorite Wyrd sculpt, so i'll stick with her and metal Rasputina...

i do like the redesign of Misaki in plastic more than my original metal one, so props for that...
some stuff that we never had in metal, like Mei Feng (i wish i could get her individually) and Yamaziko look pretty awesome...
i could see myself painting a lot of the Ten Thunders models, but the other plastic factions just don't do it for me at all...
i really wish the Ortegas had been a better looking set of plastic sculpts:(...

cheers

I have one complaint with wyrd miniatures. It's the way they produce them. Why is abuelas pipe separate? Why are both feet on the austringers birds separate?

To get depth without doing undercuts.

Though sometimes I think they do a peice separately just to feth with people.

I own like $1000 in malifaux plastics... I've yet to put any of them together, too afraid to (and this is coming from someone who builds fine scale models).

Very few models/kits have assembly trouble. The new kits (Gen Con 2014 and beyond) are even easier (Shenlong's acrobatic fighters slotted together perfectly). There are some fine pieces on kits (Yan Lo's beard and Chiaki, some of the Gremlins are really tiny, and Lady J was a little bit finnicky because of her size). The rest are very easy and still give you great quality sculpts.

Well, the ones you mention definitely aren't the only complicated ones.
That trunk with the von Schill crew, for example? O.o

There are some serious headscratchers among those plastics ...

I agree with OP that the details are shallower than I expected and washes will probably not work as well as on other brands of minis.

Got Seamus and McMourning plastic crew boxes and the Zombie Chihuahua is probably the most difficult heroic scale model I ever cleaned and assembled! Only three parts, but the tail... It is so small I missed it first thinking it was some residue left over from the casting process...

Malifaux is pretty clearly not heroic scale.

Agreed. Malifaux is plain 32mm scale. Though it does have it's own scaling issues.
