yesterdy i purchased the x wing starter set. my brother and i played 7 games and it was very fun. i have decided that my next purchase will be another starter set.
What should i get after that? is the starter set good value? does anyone have any tips for tactics?

The starter is a pretty darn good value.

I would hold off on buying too much more for the moment.

Play some more games. Find out if there is a player base in your area (it will get dull only playing your brother every time).
Try out both sides from the starter and see if you like one more than the other.
If you want to add a small Scum & Villainy fleet, I would suggest the S&V "Most Wanted" box set (has a Y and 2 z-95's in it) and a Firespray. You can use the Firespray for both S&V and IMPs which adds to the value.

there is a HUGE (300 people) player base in pittsburgh who play at legions and phantoms and drawbridge and stuff. i was going to by the S&v and use the fighters as rebels.

That won't work as you'll not have the base inserts, pilot cards etc.

You can do it the other way around, there's extra stuff in the Most Wanted box that allows you to repurpose Rebel Zs and Ys as SnV ones, but not the reverse.

I guess, with ships and dials, you could get away with it, it depends on how relaxed the game is, but even as someone who's been playing since a few weeks after release, I still like to have the right cards and components in front of me for reference.

Ultimately though, if you're going to play regularly, you'll want at least one of everything!
