Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

How about a sticky, permanently kept locked and updated by mods only, and updated with edited info from tutorial threads.

Eventually it would read like a book, one hot tip or technique per post. Differing from an articles section as you wouldn't necessarily know that you need to know the info presented. You just read the thread and learn.

Yesterday Ouze linked to an old thread from the last decade about making custom washes:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/661093.page#8070498

It led me and others here:

Now you could say, why not write up an article. Thing is article presentation is a lot of work, rather than copy paste, and it might also already be there and people not notice, because people read articles they think they need as it is a index reference source. Post info stumbles on you, not the other way around. We would not necessary think "hey I need to find a way to get inks in bulk", though we ought to. But we could read a general tips thread and find out that and many other things. Things we might not know we need to know.

When Devlin Mud was done away with. When prices rise, and again and again, When I wanted to do a very large terrain inkwashing. It has long been useful to know how to make ones own inks, and I only learn how yesterday, by accident.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Still doesn't mean that something like a handbook of the best tutorials wouldn't be a very nice and useful tool to have.

Why don't you do it Orlanth?
With regular updates made by yourself it will always be at the top of the page anyway.
The mods get angry when they miss out on hobby time through having to do paperwork.
You wouldnt like them when they're angry.

Because I am not a mod.

The tips thread would need regular editing of all the replies added to it, or would need to be specifically locked. Asking people not to post would not be enough.

If it is possible to give a regular user selective mod powers over a single thread I could indeed do this.

You'd just have to edit the first post and copy/paste anything exciting into it, no?
If it is popular then maybe it could become a permanent feature on Dakka with the privileges that you feel you'd need?

This P+M tip of the day thread is doing quite nicely....

If the OP wished to annotate and alphabetise the posts into a nice readable format with links to other tutorials, then update the first post it'd be a nice resource.
Seems like a lot of hard work already and it's only 2 weeks/6 pages long. Perhaps suggest it to them?

Sorry for all the edits, things keep popping into my mind but essentially if you can prove that some (not quite perfect) version of this could be a success (ie do a Beta test) it's more likely that the motion will get passed.

No reason you'd need to be a mod - see, e.g., all the News & Rumors threads where the OP updates the original post as new information is added.
