I haven't actually played since 5th edition. I'm gearing up to get back into the game, and made a list of 2000-ish points worth army. I made this list to include some of my favorite minis, so winning is not my main goal but at the same time losing every game doesn't sound too fun, so critique is welcome. It uses the Ork Horde detachment. Also, if I am mistaken on the rules in any of my unit choices, please let me know.

HQ:
1 Big Mek with: SAG

1 Big Mek with: KFF

1 Painboy

Troops:
12 Slugga Boyz with: 1 Nob with Big Shoota. 1 rokkit launcha. takes, as a dedicated transport:
1 Trukk with: Boardin' Planks and a red paint job.

11 Slugga Boyz (to make room for the KFF Big Mek) with: 1 Nob with a Power Klaw. 1 rokkit launcha. Takes, as a dedicated transport:
1 Trukk with: Red paint job

Elites:
10 Nobz with: Big Choppas. Takes, as a dedicated transport:
1 Battlewagon with: a Zzap Gun, a Deff rolla, and a Grabbin' klaw.

Fast Attack:
5 Deffkoptas with: 3 bigbomms, and twin-linked Rokkit Launchas

1 Blitza-bommer with: a red paint job.

Heavy Support:
1 Deff Dread with: 1 rokkit launcha.

1 Killa Kan with: 1 rokkit launcha.

Lords of War:
1 Stompa

The consensus picks for most useful units in the new codex are:

Warboss with mega armor and Lucky Stikk
Painboy
MANz
Tankbustas
warbikers
Mek guns
Deffkoptas (normally lone)
FW units: Zhardsnark, gun wagons, kustom Stompa

Obviously, there are many votes for other units, but these are the ones that consistently get the best reviews and most love from the more esteemed ork players of Dakka.

Like most of us, you want to use the models you own, especially ones that are painted/converted well and the models you consider fluffy and fun. I'm not saying you should want to redo your list into a tournament contender or to throw out your beautifully painted nobz mob, for example. I just figured I would try to save you time researching these forums by summarizing the top pick units.

My only criticism of the list is there are too mant "extras" that are often not worth the points: red paint jobs, big bomms, and a big shoota on your slugga boyz nob? There's no option for that.

Also, for the Horde detachment, you need three Troops, I believe. You can take two combined arms detachments to get extra HQ slots. (You would need to add two more troops.) Then you can split your Deffkoptas into singleton units and zoom them all over the board to grab Maelstrom objectives.

Thank you for that list!

The rules say that nobz can take things from the 'ranged weapons' list, which is vague. I did not know if that meant that they may take anything on the list or if I'm just missing something. Obviously the Nob can't take everything from the list, but I didn't know where to draw the line.

Just now re-read the rules on Dedicated transports, I had mis-read the rules to say that a dedicated transport takes a troops slot if use for troop, etc. But now I read it again and I see it says that they take no slot. I'll add another troop of Boyz.

EDIT: Just asked on YMDC, they directed me to the real wargear list, with points and things listed. Now it makes a lot more sense.
